I have an on going problem with ants. I have a company that sprays for bugs and are supposed to best in my town. They seem to be trying to do a good job but just can't get rid of the ants. I really could use some help with this ant problem. Thanks Don

If they're in the house, you can make up a mixture of Apple Jelly and Borax (i.e the old 20 mule team) and put a dab on a cracker. Seems like it was 1/3 Borax & 2/3 Jelly. Just keep it away from the pets.

We have been using Amdro Ant Block (Lowes, Home Depot) for the last 4-5 years and it has completely eliminated any ants for us. Sprinkle around the perimeter of the foundation and repeat every 2-3 months when ants are active. One container (about $14) should do an average house. I highly recommend this if you have ants (who doesn't?)

We've been invaded too (little bitty ants). I think it's because the ground here is saturated and the little dudes have to go somewhere.

I've been killing at least 20 on the kitchen sink counter every time I've gone into the kitchen (maybe 3 times a day) for a week now. I keep the counter clean, clean, clean so I don't know what's attracting them.

I put out a two Raid Double Control Ant Baits out yesterday afternoon and haven't seen even one ant so far today (11 am).

Well first you need to tell me if the ants are in the yard or in the home?

They are in the house and out side. They are the small black ants. I have killed about thirty ants this mourning in the kitchen. I hate ants and more important my wife does to. Don

Why don't anteaters get sick? Because they're full of ant-bodies.

How many ants does it take to fill an apartment? Tenants.

Okay, okay. What you have are argentine ants, they tend to come in to visit this time of year. Google them, and you will find they're very, very clean, if that helps any. Keep the counters clean, they'll go to greener pastures soon.

The boric acid thing does work. Like Beaverisland said mix it with something the ants will eat and it will kill them. As for the ants outside, find the nest, poke a hole in it as deep as you can with a piece of rebar or something and pour about three gallons of boiling water in the hole. Hot tap water isn't hot enough. I tried 120 degree tap water last week and it didn't kill any ants, but boiling water will do the trick and it is cheap.

Well if you are paying a company then have them come out to re treat. It's what you are paying for.

If you want to try on your own and they are black ants not tiny tiny small reddish Pharaoh or Thief ants then you have a chance.

The are probably Pavement ants.

Try to follow the trail. It takes patience. See if they are coming from a single entry area. SOS. Seak out the source.

They are easy to kill but unless you find the source you will be bothered by them. Look outside around the house. Pick up any rock, flower pot, piece of wood etc. If you find the nest. spray with any pest spray.

If you can not locate the nest, baits will work but if there is spray around, they will not go to the bait.

Good Luck and Good Hunting!:)

Go around your house with a weed eater and clear a few inches between the foundation and any vegetation. Then buy poison either the ones you mix in a sprayer or the one gallon "home defense", and get a sack of ant granules go along the perimeter of the house with both. If you see any ant mounds anywhere else throw some of the granules on top of it. Ants also make mounds under your foundation and come in through the cracks you can't see. Go around your entire home and vacuum EVERTHING ants eat everything since they are natures cleaners. Get your yard sprayed if you want to save money buy the one you attach to your garden hose and DIY. If you skip any of the above steps they will be BACK very soon if your neighbors have them also suggest they do the same or repeat the above steps every few months. Most company's out there might not be as honest as you think unless they offer a guarantee. good luck....

I've got a house in Glades County Fl. CBS slab on an anthill. I control ants with Termidor. Mix it 1/2 termite strength and spray up exterior wall 4ft and out 4 ft on the ground. I spray inside too. Spray thoroughly and then do it again in 2 weeks. Thereafter spray every couple months. This will put them on the run along with your other pests. Fire the pest control service. I buy mine here.

According to my pest guy this just makes the problem worse as the queen instinctively replaces all the ants that don't return to the nest with new ones. Trick is to get the raiding party to return to the nest with poison bait, killing the queen and everything else in it. This takes a little while but is the only thing that works. As long as the queen and her nest are safe you are going to lose...it's just a matter of when not if.

Grant's Ant Stakes.I have used them for years and swear by them.If they're indoors, lay ant stakes where they can take the food back to their den;if outdoors, lay where they are coming in.bk43 is right. It might take 1 or 2 weeks, but they will disappear like magic.

I'm a pest control guy, here in california, only professionals (i'm the only one professional enough....)
can use Termidor or even better, Arilon. Ask your pest control company to use either of these on the foundation and bait inside. They should also spend some time tracking down the nest and treating it too.

1. Have you tried reasoning with them? It costs you nothing, and if it doesn't work out, you are no worse off than when you started.

2. You don't have to kill them all. Identify the ringleaders and make an example of them.

3. Long after human habitation is a faint memory on the face of this Earth, there will still be ants.

About 6 years ago I had an ant prob like yours. My last attempt was so succesful I haven't had them since. Raid Ant Spikes. Place them outside around the domicile at the ant entry points.

I heard the borax works on cockroaches too, but doesn't kill them directly. It kills the symbiotic bacteria they have in their gut for digestion, so they essentially starve to death.

Go to a Home Depot & buy some "AMDRO" put a bit near the ants, they'll carry it back to their nest & problem solved!
