As bigjohn4 stated, your Model 36 was manufactured in 1983, but the shipping date is probably a little later. Only a letter from S&W can provide you with an accurate shipping date, although there are some Forum members that may be able to narrow it down for you. Your grandfather's Model 36 is a blued round butt frame with a 2" barrel, and are quite desirable. The Model 36s are not rare or particularly valuable, but yours is a family heirloom so hopefully it's precious to you. Enjoy!
