Ok, I know there are a million of these help me choose topics. But, the more I research, the bigger my list gets...

I own a Smith & Wesson Shield. I love it and carry it daily. The trigger is a bit gritty, which is my only complaint.

I am in the market for a double stack 9mm subcompact/compact. How does the trigger on the M&P9c compare to the shield? Is it the same?

I was also looking at the Glock 26, the XDM9c, and the HK P30SK.

Any thoughts or advice?

Thanks!

Buy the 9c. Install an Apex trigger. Nothing else on your list will come close. Now that I've gotten 2 M&Ps (9c and 9 CORE) with Apex triggers, I'm considering selling my Glocks. And they both have aftermarket trigger parts and springs. The just don't compare. The Apex would clean up your Shield's trigger too.

if you're in comifornia like i am, i would stick with the shield and apex upgrades.

... But if you're in a free state (pls dont egg me, my fellow M&P maniacs), i would go for a glock 43.

The Shield's factory trigger is MUCH nicer than the M&P9c's factory trigger.
When I was in the market for a double-stack Compact, I compared the M&P9c to the XDM9c and the XDMc trigger felt great. I do also have a G26 and enjoy shooting it just as much as the XDMc and Shield.
and... I can conceal the G26 and XDMc as easily as the Shield.
(I just can't Pocket Carry the G26 or XDMc like I can the Shield) ;)

While I do periodically tinker with my Glocks (just because they're so darned easy to tinker with), I prefer to buy a pistol that I don't NEED to tinker with, just to make it 'acceptable'.

Maybe you got a bad trigger

Glocknug, it sounds like you got a bad trigger on your Shield. Like others mentioned, an Apex trigger kit is great and I installed one on my 5" M&P 9mm Pro. However, I bought a Shield recently, one without the safety to make sure I got a newer model, and the trigger has been very good. Enough so that I haven't even considered installing the Apex trigger kit. I know what you mean when you describe the gritty feel because that's the way my Pro came, but that wasn't the case with the Shield. Anyway, you might go with the M&P 9c and install the Apex kit and you would have a great gun. Glocks are a good choice too but I just like the way M&Ps fit my hand. Regards, Elliot45

Buy the m&p9c and after breaking if you do any apex upgrades do it one step at a time . You can buy a Carry Enhancement kit if you need upgrades but change parts the one step at a time . Start with the striker block and spring change as it may be all you need or want . You can find on You Tube a few point in the trigger group to polish and how to tune the connector . That is more than likely all that you may need .

If you do go the Apex route, there a numerous kits to choose from. If the gun is for carrying, I do NOT recommend any of the FSS kits. I have the FSS kits in my full sized competition M&P's. For my 9c's I put the DCAEK kit (duty and carry) in and later added polymer triggers (I did not like how the stock physical trigger felt). The kit cleaned up the trigger a lot and made the trigger pull a little lighter (which I wanted). The triggers are around 4-4.5 lbs as opposed to 2-2.5 on our competition guns.
