I have a .22 revolver, 4” barrel, no model number, serial number on butt is 1161. Only 4 numbers. Has adjustable rear sight. I believe it’s from the early to mid 1960s. Any help with model number and date of manufacture would be appreciated.

Lt. Dave, your revolver appears to me to be an early model, 4-screw, I-frame, "1953 22/32 Kit Gun." An excellent revolver and with that low of a serial number, possibly manufactured in the early/mid-1950's. Other's more knowing than me will give more accurate dating, model, and frame configuration.

Here is a later production "Kit Gun" on a J-frame, SN: M1028xx, that I bought new in 1975 for my wife.

S&W Model 34-1 "Kit Gun" in .22 Long Rifle.

Agree with above.
Yours being a low 4-digit SN, it likely dates to 1953-54. Model numbers didn't exist until 1958 or so, when it became the Model 34.
The upper sideplate screw was deleted just before that.

It belonged to my Mom. She got it in the early 60s. She went to a training class because she had never handled a handgun. There were about 50 people in the class and she was the “Top Gun”! She was a crack shot with a rifle as well. We had a garden and she would sit on the back steps and shoot crows out of the tops of the pine trees behind the garden with my Ithaca .22 single shot with open sights. Right at 125 yards! (Still have that rifle)

I also have a Colt Cobra .22 with a 3” barrel that I think is early 60s. Ser/94185. Any idea on value? In perfect condition.
