This gun was given to me by an older gentleman that I knew for years. The guy passed away about a year ago and I ran into his son today. I told him about the gun and tried to give it back, but he said that his dad would have wanted me to keep it. I know it's a S&W, but that's all I know. It's difficult to make out any of the writing on the gun. Any info would be appreciated!!

It would help if you could tell us the caliber and the serial number on the butt. It appears to be perhaps a .38 Double action top break model, but give us more info. and we can pin it down better.
