Hope you can help with some values on some very nice revolvers I lucked into today.

One is a Model 586 (no dash, but it does have the "M", so I'm pretty sure the firing pin mod has been done at the factory). It's serial number is around AJF#### (it's pretty close to that - it's not in front of me, but I looked at the serial numbers and markings about an hour ago). I THINK this dates it to around the early to mid-80s. It's in 100% condition, except the left factory wood grip has been shaved down for a speedloader to clear it, and has been re-finished. The odd thing is why this modification, when it looks like it's never been fired??? (The front of the cylinder is absolutely clean and dark blue with no carbon ring...)

The second one is the incredible one... It's a Model 57 (no dash), with the old-style serial number, which in this case starts with an "N" (and then like 5 or 6 digits). This revolver is near new, I'd say 98+%, with good grips also. This one has been shot, but very little and it's been taken care of very well. The color case hardening on the target hammer and trigger (.500" grooved) are beautiful! This adjustable-sight 41 Magnum has a 4" barrel, which I believe is a little less common, isn't it?

I have boxes for neither of these, but they're both in great shape.

This fellow also has a Model 10-4 which is in probably 90-95% shape and it has a 2" barrel (VERY short, I don't think it even makes 2.5"). Like the rest of these revolvers, it is pre-lock, pre-MIM. Serial number starts with BPB (I presume the late 90s?). He wants $325 for it. Should I pick up this one too?

I've been looking at 57's on GB, and judging from what I see there the bare 57 would probably bring $650.-750. Box, tools, papers, etc. would add another $100-150. The 4" barrels were not real popular "in the day", but are more sought after now.

Thanks for the update epj.

Anyone have an idea on date of production with that "N" serial number?
