Help...Need Ammo for 38sp...anything.

I just bought a new 642 for carry and I can't find a single shell anywhere online or in local stores. I need both defense and practice loads.
Any online tips? And, what specific brands or types should I avoid. I am tempted to get anything I can get now. Going to Walmart and
the big sports warehouses is strange. Folks come in all day to check and all the aisles are empty.
At this point I have an expensive (and VERY LIGHT) hammer.

Welcome to the forum. Check out ammunitiontogo.com. Last I checked(this morning) they had Federal 158gr +p for like $30 a box. Pretty good price and if you search around on the forum you will find that it is a recomended load by many users.

I have a 642 which is rated for +p, but some say don't shoot too much of it. I will grab some to have it for defense load, but still looking for
some standard pressure for practice. Thanks for the tip, I will check it out.

target practice. It did not indicate if items were in stock or would be backordered.

Likely if it didn't indicate it at the site, it was in stock. Your +P rated gun will run fine with them! I've beaten the snot out of a 342PD for 9 years now with it, and she still is perking right along.

It looks like those are from Natchez Shooting Supply?
And there's very rarely a "good price" any longer, from anywhere? Some are just better relatively than others due to different shipping charges being dialed in.

Yep, checked them out and they are all out of all 38 special ammo. I would hate to resort to
Gunbroker auctions of old ammo from folks' basements.

If it's listed on the Ammo To Go site, it's in stock. When they run out of stock, it doesn't show up on the page.

I buy ammo off Gunbroker all the time.
Never had a problem.
Many of the sellers are gun store owners or wholesalers in the ammo dept.

Also for loads that have become hard to find,
like Silvertips, gbroker is my only source.
It is pretty easy to tell if the ammo is well stored or not.

Man oh man. I never thought we'd see the day...being happy to find $20 a box .38 Special ball ammo.

I did see some Winchester white box personal protection 125gr JHP+P at the local Academy Sports today for $19 a box. That's the first .38 Special they've had in stock in many weeks.
