Hello everyone,

Many, many Years ago, my father sold his model 65, it was one of my favorite revolvers he had, but for reasons, he had to sell it.

I know I’ll probably never find his exact gun, but I was looking for one that was the exact copy of it. I have his serial number. Can you tell me if it was a model 65-2 or -3? I know it was a 4” bull barrel, walnut stocks, thought it has a red ramp, but I could have been mistaken on that, and I believe it had a TT and TH. If you can tell me what variation it was I would greatly appreciate it.

His serial was 7D292XX

Thank you in advance! Have a great day!

My 65-3 3” 7D77631 shipped 06/22/82. FWIW. I believe the 3” barrel was offered along with the 4” in 81. Could be a dash 2. Is it P&R?

I don’t remember if it was P&R. It sounds like it’s right on that border then of revision changes. Well, I’ll just have to keep my eyes open for a 4” bull barrel with walnut grips and see what’s out there. Unless anyone else can narrow it down.
Thanks guys! I appreciate the help! Have a good day!!

Well, I called s&w, all they could tell me is that it shipped in 1981. Puts it right on the line between the two. I’m thinking -3 because I do vaguely remember the the cylinder wasn’t recessed but It was over 30 years ago.

If anyone has the s&w bible and can confirm the revision number I would be greatly appreciative. If not I’ll keep digging. Thanks again and happy 4th!
