Mailman brought a new pistol today which came with a holster. Shiny leather but not what I would call "patent leather" like was on my Dad's police shoes and holster...before he went plain clothes. RIP Capt. B. The pistol is a S & W 39-2 and the holster is marked Monte Carlo and below that Hand Made and below that U.S.A.. Below that are the capital letters J G Q 6 2. Anyone have or seen this holster for a 39-2?

It is a product of the Monte Carlo Holster Company, just like the holster is marked. If you "Google" that name you will find many of their holsters for sale on E-Bay, Etsy, etc. They have no web site and appear to be out of business. They were active in the 1960s.

I had never heard of them, but it is amazing how much can be deduced from internet postings about defunct companies if you only look!;);)

Very similar to the Bucheimer product line. Enclosed spring-steel retention device with screw for tension adjustment.

The stamped letters probably represent a code to indicate manufacturer's model designation and intended fit, frequently referring to a range of different handguns that could be accommodated. Holsters specifically made for a single handgun model were not commonly seen until about 1980 or so, and it was pretty common to see holsters intended for one type repurposed for use with another model.

Looking at the photos in the OP, I would not be surprised if a 4" medium-frame revolver (S&W K-frame, Colt O-frame) could fit readily, perhaps requiring only a bit of tension adjustment via the screw illustrated.

I agree with Lobo.

I would add that it appears to be a Cross Draw style holster.
