Unfortunately I have limited experience with regular M&Ps. I've got 3 Shields now (9 & 380 EZs and .45 PC) and had a few others over the years but never really got into the standard-sized M&Ps as I went the Sig 320 route for the striker-fired flavors.

So I have no earthly idea what that little screwhead on the rear of an M&P 9mm Pro series is. There seems to be an arrow and the letter L so it could be a lock that needs not a special key but just a screwdriver? But I'm not sure.

Can someone help? It's bugging me I don't know what it is and haven't been able to find it on the interwebs.

I understand the triggers are a bit better on the Pro guns

No Manual with your m&p full size or did not look for infor on line . Many internal locks were removed . Take note on page 28 of the manual for the pre-2.0 pistols and read up .

Might even find a you tube video to help you disassemble your pistol far enough to figure out if your lock was removed and plugged or if it works .
LInk below to a manual -

Made me look. I have a first generation M&P Pro Series I bought new, and although the directional "L" mark is there, there's no screw head, just a solid rod end.

Like the others said, your frame has the provisions for the internal lock but your sear housing doesn't. That's why the plug is there.

Early M&Ps (made during the Clinton AW ban) had the internal locks (like the revolvers). Not sure what year they stopped (2011-ish?) but rather than modify the frame, they made the sear housing changes and simply put a plug in the hole. While "standard" M&P 1.0s got newer molded frames (to allow a manual safety), models like the Pro Series and COREs continued to use the plug frames. Note that the non manual safety models use rectangular plugs where the safety lever would exit. This makes it easy to determine the difference.

I just looked at my wife's 11 year old m&p core 9mm , it has a metal non-functioning plug in it . It does have the same little L and arrow in the plastic but not like that matters . My 4.25 40sw bought with in the same month has a thumb safety !!
