Hello Folks,
Brand new to the forum, so forgive me if there is a simple answer to my question.
I have a Hand Ejector, NO Model on Yoke, 5 hole "S" with 949XXX for serial number. 4" barrel fixed sight .38 S&W Special CTG on the barrel. It also has a strain screw on the front of the grip.

What Model/Name Year is this S&W, I need to try and find some side plate screws and grip panel screw. I was told by someone it might be a "Heavy Duty" 38/44, but I do not think that is it.

Any help would be greatly appreciated,
Thanks

Welcome to the Forum, lots of good folks and information here. You probably have a Military & Police (M&P) pre-model 10, 38 special, five screw perhaps from 1947-48. Those with S prefixes were made only between 1946-48.

22hipower, thanks for the welcome, also the info. Yes I have found great information here. I am glad I joined

.38 M&P S949081 probably shipped in October or November, 1947. It still has the long throw action, so not a "pre-Model 10."

But it is decidely NOT a .38/44 Heavy Duty. That is obvious from all the information supplied. S prefix numbers on the N frames were much lower than that - still 5 digits in 1947, and they never got above S333454 (1970).

Not on a pre 10, if yours has one, it is most likely a 38/44 heavy duty or some such, a picture is worth a whole bunch of words! ;)
Yeah I know, I was asking the OP.
Since it doesn’t have one, it’s obviously not a HD.

I was pretty sure it wasn't the Heavy Duty, Thanks for the help glad I joined this forum. Great advise here.
Thanks for helping me out.

Retired W4,
No sir I do not need all the plate screws, just the one from under the right grip panel. I also need Grip panel screw and the spring that goes inside the trigger. This poor revolver was left in my friends Grandfathers car, in the trunk for nobody knows how long... so it was pretty well rusted. The grip panel screw head was so bad it just pretty much fell apart, had to EDM (Electrical Discharge Machining) mill it out, same with the side panel screw under the grip. the spring in the trigger was in pieces.
So, no, it is not Nickel finish, I am in the process of refinishing the revolver for my friend, as I have a Cerakote shop in Danville Al.
If anybody has a place that might have some of these parts, or if they are compatible to another model. I would apricate the help.
Thanks Clint

Welcome to the forums from the Wiregrass! The .38 M&P you are working on is nearly identical to the WWII Victory revolvers which are basically the Model 1905, 4th Change version. So, parts on eBay or from Numrich will interchange. If you can't find a grip screw, shoot me a PM and I'll mail you one. Are they still delivering mail by horse and buggy in Morgan County? ;)

I have Clint covered for all but the grip screw. I was thinking Morgan Co. was in LA. Man, was I wrong.
