I don't know if this is an appropriate post, but I need professional feedback.
I have purchased 4 firearms this year. I also have CCP permit here in WA. I went to try and purchase a 5th. I was denied. I immediately filed an appeal on line with the FBI NICS system.
They sent me a letter stating that my 1992 misdemeanor assault charge in Calif. was a Domestic Violence( It was not just simple assault). Before moving to WA. I purchased several guns in CA. and now 4 in WA. How and the hell can they reclassify a charge over 20 years old. Is just another way to thin out the guns? Am I sitting as a felon now with all the guns I own? Is it a case if I don't have the money to fight i'm screwed? What do I do???

This sounds like a major problem. It seems like they would have found this when you applied for the permit. Hope you get it resolved okay. Good luck.

I have a close friend in california, he has pretty much the same problem. A number of years ago he had a drunk GF highly insult him. He showed her the door, picked up her purse and threw it at her. Unfortunatly there was a bottel of vodka in the purse. She pressed charges and he went to anger managment. He has no other record, is a vietnam vet etc. A couple months ago he visited me. He told me he had to sell his guns. He tried to write letters etc and was told no way!

It is going to be expensive. Get hold of the NRA's legal office, and they can help you find the right kind of lawyer. Fight it now or forever loose your 2nd Amendment right! Ivan

Read the rules for a Concealed Pistol Permit (CPL) under WA State Licensing. WA State Licensing: How to get your license - Concealed Pistol License

Note: They state felony convictions and not misdemeanors, "Have no felony convictions, or adjudications for a felony offense." That is probably why you were issued a CPL.

On ownership, you are prohibited from owning a firearm if "after having previously been convicted or found not guilty by reason of insanity in this state or elsewhere of any serious offense" (RCW 9.41.040).

So, it looks like you are able to own a firearm in this state and also receive the CPL. But you still can't buy a firearm from a FFL/LGS since you won't be able to pass the NICS check; you can buy from private sales and gun shows (see below).

But I would get legal advice as I am no lawyer.

The majority of gun shows in WA are put on by WA Arms Collectors. In order to buy firearms at their shows you have to have a CPL and pass their background check. I don't know how restricted their checks are but probably in line with state guidelines.

Another contact would be Second Amendment Foundation in Bellevue.

Hmmm

Thank You, good point. I don't know. Like any evolution of laws and restrictions this was pre- OJ. (OJ Simpson and Nicole). Like I said it was a simple assault. It wasn't classified at that time as a domestic violence crime. I believe all state laws prohibit firearms from felons and also misdemeanor domestic violence charges. This was in 1992, It would have been made aware to me at the time if I had any restrictions that had been put on me. I don't know how they can go back and re-classify and put this on me. Maybe im ok with the state, but, am I going to have the Feds showing up at my door???
