A little copper doesn't hurt anything.Hoppes will work with a lot of scrubbing. There are some cleaners made for copper that are more aggressive, but they do smell !

what would you suggest? and would they carry it at walmart?

Get anything that is marked as being specifically for copper removal. They all work, although we all have a favorite or two. But -- don't worry too much about it. Copper fouling rarely builds up enough in handguns to cause major problems, so it is not an absolute "must" every time you clean.

You might not find exactly what you need at Walmart.

they usually carry Hoppes No. 9 cleaner BUT the problem is it doesn't do too much at all on copper which is what you are seeing.

Hoppes Bench Rest 9 Copper Cleaner is safe to use and works pretty well at removing the kind of copper deposits you're seeing.

I personally use M Pro7 copper remover but it's not found in a lot of stores-I usually order it from Midway.

copper residue

I would use Mpro7 copper remover. Highly effective and you only have to swab and brush once followed by their gel bore cleaner. It does the trick without the hassel and it is odor free. I believe walmart started carrying Mrpo7 products found in a recent wallmart flyer. If they do not carry it, then Midway or Brownell's has it. I purchase the 4 oz and it lasts me a long time.

Yeah, I checked the Walmart website and they are at least selling MPro7 Gun Cleaner which does an EXCELLENT job of cutting carbon and gunk and does work on light copper fouling. As new as your pistol appears to be, that would probably be enough to remove it if a bore brush is used.

Just remember Hoppes No. 9 does NOTHING to copper but their Benchrest does...

a huge thank you to everyone. the gun is brand new basically. only 250 rounds down range. ill stop by the local shop and see what they have

I use either Break Free foaming bore cleaner or Hoppe's Elite Copper Terminator, which is available at WalMart. No strong smell either.
