I have been reading and watching YouTube videos but I am confused. I have a new MP 15-22 and having issues with ejection/extraction. It is fairly common and starting to annoy me.

Basically what happens is the spent casing will get jammed up between the bolt and the ejection port. But at the same time it will still cycle a new shell in. This results in the gun being nonoperational.

I have read about a new extractor from Volquartsen for like $15. Would this solve my issues or should I just contact S&W? I am unsure if I have an ejection or extraction issue here. I would say this issue occurs 1 in 10 rounds using various different types of ammo.

Thanks for the help!

Sounds to me like you could do with using the ejector fix.

If the casings are leaving the chamber then the extractor is doing it's job, if the casings are getting stuck in the ejection port, then the ejector is your issue.

The T22 or VQ extractor are worthwhile upgrades, especially if you like hitting people 15ft away with your spent casings. The main problems with ejection are the correct position of the ejector and the correct loading of the mags. (which plays a bigger role than either mechanical part, incorrect loading of mags WILL lead to issues) There are youtube vids and numerous threads on here covering this.

Hope the problems clear up and you can go on enjoying this fantastic rifle.

Your problem as described is caused by the ejector but the new Volquartsen extractor is money well spent. The ejectors are softer metal than I expected for such a part, I have to adjust mine every 1000 rounds or so.

So I watched the video linked above and my ejector is already spaced properly from what I can tell. (There is some clearance between the ejector and bolt like the guy says there needs to be.) So I guess I am not sure what to do now?

Get the Volq for $15 it an excellent upgrade I had the same prob and it solved it straight away.
also ensure you are loading your ammo correctly in the magazine (AS POINTED OUT BY GhostMutt)
as this can cause the problem your speaking of the ammo should be zig zagged in the Mag.
Don't pull the Mag spring down to far when loading just enough to load 1 bullet at a time. check on you tube on how to load mp1522 magazine.

Thank you for the replies. I have only been loading 1 this a time in the mag but have not been checking for the staggering so I don't THINK that's the problem but I cannot confirm either. I think I'm going to order the Volquartsen extractor and see what happens. Obviously can't hurt anything.
