My wife and I decided to take a nice Christmas picture of the two of us with our three cats in front of the fireplace.
Took 2 days and some spilt blood trying. You can't really see the fireplace but we finally got the picture.
I knew that there was no way we'd be able to take a picture with a timer so I set the video camera on a tripod and just grabbed a still from that.

I knew that there was no way we'd be able to take a picture with a timer so I set the video camera on a tripod and just grabbed a still from that.

I'll make a suggestion for using the timer, if you don't mind.

Set up your camera on the tripod. Compose the shot with your wife in the frame, leaving room for you. If you're using manual focus, focus on her, and when you get in the shot, be as close to on the same plane of focus as she is.

Then, grab a couple of of the cats (yeah, I know) and let her hold them. You grab the other one and hold it as you're setting the timer (maybe you have a variable timer? 10 seconds or 30 seconds...set it for 30). Then get yourself into the frame as quick as you can before the shutter clicks.

Give it a try. It's digital, so all it's costing you is some time.

Just as an aside, I no longer use a timer. For my pro cameras, I use a Vivitar wireless remote shutter release, and for the iPhone's camera, I use a Joby Bluetooth remote shutter release ($20 at Best Buy).

Sandy sure seems to have a kinda wild look in her eyes!!

My Lucky has discovered a shelf about a foot and a half above the head of my bed. He will sneak up there and lay in wait until I am snoozing, then he pounces!! Right in the middle of my chest!! Then sits there and admires his work.

Love cats!!

Best Regards, Les

3 cats are definitely a challenge! Cute video! Merry Christmas to you, Lisa and your kitties.

Taking pictures of cats is not easy. Try putting a Santa hat and beard on a grumpy cat! I apologize in advance to my husband for posting this. :p

Disclaimer: No animals were harmed taking this photo (bruised egos are exempt).
