High Standard 106 Supermatic Citation

I found this in a local gun shop about a week ago but passed on it as it didn’t look like it was quite worth the asking price.

It was still there yesterday. On closer inspection, its biggest issue was just being really dirty with an overall coat of grime. Plus they were willing to down $50 in price. So I bought it.

It cleaned up very nice, and it will fit in nicely with a pair of 107 Victors as well as a couple S&W 41s.

Looks nice, from what I can see! Those are great old .22s. When I used to shoot with an informal group once a week those High Standards were the .22s of choice. I could always shoot mine better than my Model 41. Congrats on the nice find.

I would have brought that one home too, very nice. I've always loved the HS .22 target pistols and have owned a bunch over the years. I shot a Trophy 106 in a local Bullseye league for years. As much as I love my Smith 41's the High Standards always shot a little better for me. Phenomenal triggers on those.

Those old High Standards will really shoot. This is one I shot off the bench a while back. Just wanted to see what it would do. As it turns out, it's way better than I am!

I would have brought that one home too, very nice. I've always loved the HS .22 target pistols and have owned a bunch over the years. I shot a Trophy 106 in a local Bullseye league for years. As much as I love my Smith 41's the High Standards always shot a little better for me. Phenomenal triggers on those.

My experience was similar. I started out with a Ruger Mk 1 678 Target and eventually got a High Standard 107 Victor and eventually acquired another, along with a couple S&W 41s.

The triggers and the balance of the 107s are just a little better than either of my S&W 41s.

The quality of those Hamden guns was impeccable, although initially with the 106 Military models High Standard was still working out some of the manufacturing details. Depending on how early yours is, it may have a brass insert fitted at the bottom of the backstrap. The earlier ones also came with magazines that had (fragile) red plastic bases, which was also a stopgap measure.

When I started shooting Bullseye matches I used a HS HD-Military that I bought for 40 bucks. I shot respectable scores with it. I retired the gun when I bought a Model 41.

Years later with family and increasing job priorities I stopped competing and traded the 41 for a 200th year commemorative Blackhawk .45.

I still have the HD.

A local shop has several that were acquired as part of an estate, and I keep looking at a similar Citation and a 'space gun'.

I picked up this Victor a few months ago at a different local shop. I had never seen a hard chromed Victor before.

The OLD High Standard line up were incredibly accurate, reliable, well built, nicely finished and durable target pistols. They had GREAT triggers as well! The ONLY reason I bought the S&W M41 over the HS back in the day was because I did not like the magazine release on the bottom and the slide release on the right side. If it were not for those two features, I would have owned one.

If you want to get additional magazines, I strongly suggest finding used ones in great shape online. The older guns do not seem to like the new production mags. I had a few friends who bought new mag's for older guns - it didn't work out too well. They wound up buying older mag's and had no issues at all.

Good looking pistol!! Use it well!!

Wonderful guns. I've had 3 Mod 41's, but always went back to my H. S. Victor. The "Breaks Like a Glass Rod" trigger always felt better to me than any other Target .22.

I have three original High Standard magazines for my two 107s and my new to me 106.

I also have two of the Interarms TX magazines. One worked fine as delivered. The other needed some tweaking of the feed lips but worked fine once adjusted and the lips stayed in tune.

The Triple K magazines are an entirely different story. If you can get the lips adjusted to feed reliably, they are so soft they won’t stay in tune very long.
