Hi Guys-

A Friend is seeking info and value on a High Standard Hd Military. It has been In family since 1959.
Serial number 146256-
Pictures are best she could do right now. Gun much better shape than pictures show. Box is in good shape and has no end label like the smiths do.

Any HS experts here? Any and all info is appreciated!
Any questions, ask, and I will do my best to get the answers.

Nice gun.
Not an expert but I do know that HS auto pistols are susceptible to a frame crack and that periodic changing of the recoil spring is a must.

I believe the grips are from a Model E. The standard Model HD Military grips were flat checkered wood.

i am shure there are at least one hugh standard collector here.

Just sold nice one 1st of year for $600. That close to top money unless NIB. Op gun aftermarket grips.

Sounds about right. I’d would have said $500 to $600 range would be reasonable asking retail price. Trade in offer to a LGS will probably start in $3xx range.

Yep, keep those recoil springs fresh and stick to SV.

I have several Hi Standard pistols made from 1941 to 1973. I have shot tens of thousands rounds through most and haven’t had a frame crack yet.

The HD Military that you’ve shown was made in 1946, the first year. I have had a 1947 one for over 30 years and still like it. It’s in really good shape but probably still only worth the $450.00 I paid for it back then.

Prices have been @ $450.00 - $600.00 for just a great condition HD, a bit more for box and extra magazines and such. Military marked ones go for a few more.

When I got mine the seller said the box wasn’t original and that “someone” had scratched off the original serial number.

I’ve a question for you. Does that Military Grip magazine work in the HD?. I only have and use the standard ones for mine.

Jim

Thank you to everyone who is pitching in with info-

And thanks Jim for your info. I will ask her if she fired it with that magazine tomorrow. I am curious myself if the magazine pictured *IN* the gun is the one also pictured in the plastic bag.
She relayed to me that there were NO markings on the box, but I will double check that also.

That mag pictured will not work in HD Mil. I’ve had one for over 50yrs and had bought several wrong mags before I got some smarts. Have had no luck with aftermarket mags. If you buy wrong HS mag at least you can sell and break even.

So it sounds like you are saying that the magazine shown in the bag, is not the one shown inserted in the gun... it is a "spare" that will not work in gun.

Will it insert?

Yes it will insert but that’s all. I would take that magazine to a big show and trade somebody for HD-Mil mag. or sell it. I sold the same mag, one forum couple years back. Think $50. Hs mags are dear. Original mags will have metal follower. There is a series will rolled lips on mag and green plastic follower that will work also. Maybe a HS expert can give chapter & verse on this. Clips & grips can be aggravating.

Hi maybe Mr. Stimson can give you the exact date of shipping and where to if you provide him with the full serial #
Regards, Ray

The serial number is on here, and someone ( 4T5GUY) has told me it was a first year- 1946.

If it's a HS 22 mag and inserts- what keeps it from working in the gun? Won't feed for some reason?

I have two High Standards, one is an HD.
Any magazine I find won’t work. Lips are soft.
I gave up even trying to fire them.
Emails and posts to Mr. Stimson have been no help.
Seems the company moved to Texas.

Haven’t shot my HD is a long time.
You guys got me thinking, get it out and shoot it,
Or just let sleeping Dogs lie!
I have 3-4 Mags, I think.

I’m not familiar with that box, but I’m no expert on HS either. I love the grips!

Here’s my HD Military. As you can see from the photos, the box is black and does have an end label. I wouldn’t part with mine for $600.
