Found a set of compact Pachmayer grips the other day. Good price @ $23.
The problem was to ship this 8oz. item they wanted 2.99 handling and $17.00 shipping! What!?
C than D has finally lost any of my business.
I know, I'm late to the party. Haven't used them in quite a while, so I did not realize how bad its gotten.
I know now.

This is a trend that has come on strong in the last twenty or twenty five years. I first noticed it on flea-bay. They will have a minimal cost and make it up on shipping. That 2.99 handling and 17.00 shipping is a rip off and if people would stop paying it, it would end. Notice how Midway and revised their shipping? Because some of the others wouldn't charge near as much for the same item.

I agree. "Handling" charges is bull. I buy and sell on the internet, and only charge what it cost to ship. If someone is asking twice what shipping should cost, I pass on the item: their loss. As to flea-bay: when they started to charge the seller a percent on the shipping charges I stopped selling there. CRIMINAL.

These internet people are NOT running a store front, so there are no related cost to building or utilities.

Unfortunately, I think it's just another one of those "signs of the times." Some time ago, I needed to get a small clasp for a watch chain for one of my pocket watches. I found a place that carried them...the price was two bucks, if I remember correctly. The gal on the phone told me that shipping and handling would be $7.50.

I guess I was a little surprised because I said, "WHAT???!!! You gotta be kidding!!! That clasp doesn't even weigh an ounce!!!...and you're charging me seven bucks to ship it???? That's almost four times the worth of the clasp!!! Look, I have a better idea...just put the thing in an envelope, stick a 41-cent stamp on it and mail it!"

Her reply was something like, "Oh no, sir. We can't do that."

Well, I wasn't going to argue with her so I just said, "Fine, cancel the order," and I haven't ordered a darn thing from them since.

Like I said...a sign of the times.

Not every place sticks it to the customer on shipping. I just ordered 1000 bullets (500 each 9mm and 45) of the powder coated bullets from Bayou bullets and they ship in the USPS float rate box for $15.00. I think that figures to about 25 lbs.

"But if you order in the next two minutes and 37 seconds, we'll DOUBLE your order! That's right, you get TWO sets of Never-Sharpen Ninja Kitchen Knives with genuine serrated stainless steel blades for just $10.99! Just pay separate processing and handling of $39.99!"

Complete racket. Sleazier Than Dirt, like the TV sales thieves, really seem to think we're stupid. And unfortunately, a lot of people are.

This is one of the most common scams on the internet. Inflated "shipping and handling" charges. Entice someone in with rock bottom prices, then make a profit on the delivery charges.

Another one is the "insurance" fees. Some sellers charge for shipping insurance, then send the parcel uninsured. If you notice that when you receive your package, then raise the issue with the seller, they know that you got the package so all they'll say is that they insure everything themselves.

Lots of companies also use shipping labels printed on-site, paying shipping or postage directly but with nothing on the package to indicate how much it really cost to send. PayPal offers this service, UPS, FedEx, and the US Postal Service provide the same thing for those having accounts with them. Thus it is impossible to know if you are being overcharged for delivery.

The first place I look is Amazon Prime. I do a lot of internet shopping so I make the membership cost back fairly rapidly. Example: I just recently ordered 500 heavy duty 3 mil contractors clean-up bags, (heavy) and a 21 inch electric lawn mower. Prices were competitive, the shipping was free and delivery was 2 day.

(BTW, they do offer Pachmayer grips....)

Our only recourse is to not patronize the business and maybe do without until the message is recieved, if at all.
The wife is a prime Amazon, well.., not really, I mean a member, so I'll look there and use her account. Good idea, thanks.

Same here. I rarely leave the house to go shopping. We like the free 2-day shipping with Amazon Prime and we also watch their free video streaming. They often have shows that aren't on Netflix.

The Amazon price is often the best price on the internet even with the free shipping.

Awhile ago I needed the bolt spring to a colt single action army. They dont weigh much more than a eyelash. I got the same outrageous charge from a colt guru that you all have heard of. That was of course, on top of about 10X already what Uberti probley asks for theirs.
I am starting to guess that all this boils down to like hospitals, "We need X amount of income. If we dont get X amount of customers to receive that X amount, we will just charge you that amount to make up the difference. However I also got in the package a brochure that weighed probley 200 Xs as much as the spring, advertising his other services that he values as much as a Rembrandt. I was born a 100 years too late.

And don't forget to use Amazon Smile program as they make a donates of 0.5% of the price of your eligible AmazonSmile purchases to the charitable organization of your choice. small donation but it adds up aas we order a lot from them. We donate to the Second Amendment Foundation

Same here and as for flea bay unless you are looking for something obsolete that you can't find anywhere else you can buy it cheaper from almost anyplace now. People selling on there are just store fronts selling for the same as you can buy anyplace but for more money.

I try to deal with those companies that offer free shipping.

I do a lot of work by mail. I've had people send me knives from California for a custom leather sheath. It only cost me $7 to send it back to them, sheath and all. I guess that since I do the work myself, and drive it to the Post Office myself, I don't have to pay a lot of employees to do it for me.

The best thing to do is.....

Don't buy it if they eat you alive on shipping. Usually someplace else will have it if you keep looking.

The bullet casters have always been good on not making a huge profit on shipping.

Often, the company calculates shipping based on the cost of the item. A $10 pen knife is the same size as a $110 pen knife. Yet from a certain cutlery firm in Atlanta, IIRC, it would cost $2.95 to ship the $10 knife and $12.95 to ship the $110 model. There's more profit in the more expensive item, yet they'll also gouge me on shipping? No thanks. Have a nice day.
