Hispanic/Latino perspectives

There is another holiday in Texas that no one mentioned. It is called "Juneteenth". Any one here ever heard of it?

Cinco de Mayo is a bigger deal among Mexican-Americans in the US -- principally in the southwest and far west -- than it is in Mexico.

There are occasional parades and "cultural" events, but where I live mostly it's an opportunity for the youngbloods to carry or drape themselves in Mexican flags and swagger around, or cruise with Mexican flags draped over their cars.

Lest this assessment seems harsh, BTW, I also am not a big fan of nor impressed with St. Patrick's or Columbus Day parades and other trivia.

I am an American and a veteran, and very proud of that fact. I am far more emotional about Memorial Day, July Fourth and Veteran's Day.
