I shot one an absolutely loved it. But then it was a demo gun from H&K's police sale division, loaded with their ammo and equipped with a Knight suppressor. Perhaps that flavored my opinion.

Other than that, its a big gun and unless you get the double action variant, you have to contend with the double action/single action.

thanks guys for the info, everything i here about this gun is positive.now to find one at a reasonable price..............

I had a .45 USP Compact, fantastic gun. No complaints, mine was a Variant 1 and I loved the flexibility: cocked and locked, hammer dropped/safety on or safety off with decocker all in one pistol. I need to pick a replacement for it up ASAP, and I may need a full-size USP in .40, too, since it appears trade-ins are hitting the market.

The HK USP is a great pistol. To date it is the only tupperware gun I've purchased or used for serious purpose. The XDm45 may be the next! ;)

The USP 45 is reliable and accurate. Well made too. They can be found in police supply stores locally for around $550.

I've read alot about how HK's customer service is lacking. Good news is in twelve years of owning and shooting HK's, I've never needed HK's customer service. Many here cannot say the same for their favorite manufacturer. ;) Regards 18DAI.

My experience is very similar to everything else posted here. I've owned one since 1996. It is reliable. It is accurate. It is big.

In short, I've been very happy with mine. The full sized model takes a dedicated effort for CCW, though.

I have used it as a duty/off duty weapon. Shot it A LOT.
As far as function and accuracy its at the VERY top and can hold its own when compared to any pistol.
I work at our range at least once a week and see many USP 45 pistols fired with thousands of rounds of 230+P ammunition.
As much as I like M&P and 4506, they are no match for the full size USP 45. Not at all......

As far as accuracy , I have no problem keeping all my shots in the 8/9/10 ring ( mostly 9 and 10) of the B-27 target with 230+P duty ammo at 50 yards.

It is the ONLY pistol that is not breaking after thousands of rounds of 45 +P ammunition.

( we had several USP 45's that had over 10000 fired .....and they are still perfect)

USP 45 was build from ground up as a COMBAT PISTOL for he military.

We tried to make one fail and could not do it.

The only pistol that can hold its own with the USP is a Glock 21.

Another GREAT fighting pistol.

Now here is the bad stuff.....

It is a BIG GUN. Does not feel in the hand as good as a SIG-P220 or a 4506.
The DA is BAD.

ok,two questions, what is a "tupperware" gun why is the DA bad??? and also i have big hands ,to me it felt just fine, jmho

"Tupperware" refers to polymer/plastic framed pistols. As for "bad DA" the USP never had a great double action trigger pull.
That said I had one for awhile and carried it in Condition 1 (cocked & locked) for that very reason. They are one of the most accurate, reliable (as long as your using full power ammo), fun to shoot .45s out there!
I traded mine on a minty Smith 645 though, it's just slimmer. Dale

I have had several HK USP 45's and several in the .45ACP compact version.
I like them, but I prefer the USP .40 for shooting a USP semi-auto.

I prefer the 625 revolver for shooting the .45ACP round. Especially when using .45 auto rim cases. Very smooth and deadly accurate. There's just something about a revolver shooting 230 grain .45's.
Again, IMHO, you might like the USP in .45ACP.
augy :)

I just accidentally became a USP owner. (I call it accidentally because I didn't go looking for one.)
My eldest son has been out of work and was having to start selling off some of his toys. He mentioned that he was going to sell his USP 40 Standard to a buddy for $400 (if the buddy could come up with the money.) I know they're worth more than that so I told him I would give him $500 and he could buy it back anytime within a year of getting back to work.
Anyway, to make a long story shorter, I now have a 40 with 3 10rd mags and a rail mounted laser. I guess it's the full featured one, DA/SA, decocker, etc. Don't know that I care for the laser and will probably take it off. (I spend too much time concentrating on keeping my grip "just so" to get the laser to stay on.)
Anything else I should be aware of??

+1 I just recently started carrying my USP .40 again. As I get older the lighter weight is easier on me. I still love my TSW's but they're just so heavy. When I worked SWAT I carried a USP .45 Tactical. Absolute tack driver. By the time I left SWAT I had put over 125,000 rounds through it and only replaced the barrel (twice), recoil spring every 5,000 rounds, and the mag springs. At this time I have logged something like 200,000 to 250,000 rounds through it. It's beat to hell but it shoots better now than it did when I first got it. I have NEVER had an issue with HK CS. Send my USP's in once a year for a check up and get em' back within a week.

I have one. As previously stated, they certainly work. No problems for me regarding function or performance. Personally, having smaller hands, I find it big compared to the 4506 or SW1911. Also, I'm not crazy about the proprietary accessory rail. Finally, I'm not crazy about the mag release. I find that it is easier to engage accidentally, and it is different from every other gun that I own (muscle memory/manual of arms issue). Still, well worth adding to a collection. YMMV.
