I am going to change the grips on my M29. I like the appearence of the Hogue wood grips but they are one piece not the normal 2 piece. Has anyone used the one piece wood grips and did they fit right and also did they stay put. Any info on these would be appreciated.

I've had three Hogue wood Monogrips, for L and N revolvers, and rubber grips that came with the revolvers. One needed work with a riffler to open up the top a bit. The others fit fine out of the box. Monogrips work loose on heavy recoil just like any grips, and need periodic tightening. One set started to split on the back, but not seriously. The grips are dowelled and glued, so there's no chance of them coming apart.

I haven't used Hogues since I discovered Ahrends grips. Hogue grips are much thinner across the back, and encourage a hold low on the frame for my taste. Ahrends fill my hand better and my hand goes naturally to the top of the grip. Ahrends grips are two piece, and none are checkered. The Ahrends oiled finish is a lot more attractive than the Hogue waxed finish.

I put a set of one piece Hogues on my 325 Smith. They fit real well and seem to stay in place with the recoil of a 45 acp in a lighter gun. Hogue has been selling them for a good long time and I have never heard of them slipping out of place.

I have Hogue wooden grips on six or seven of my guns -- Mostly N frames but some K and one J frame -- they work well for me with heavy loads -- never had a fitting problem with them

Here's just a few of my sixguns that wear Hogue one-piece woods. J-frames , K-frames , N-frames and Colts. No issues , usually perfect fit , includes instructions on how to fine tune the fit with cardboard shims if needed.

I guess ya could say I like 'em!

What color is the top right grip? thanks

I have a Goncalo Alves Hogue grip for a K/L frame round to square butt conversion. It looks good, it fits tight, never had a problem with it quality/fit/finish wise.

I hate it. I took it off and put the Uncle Mike's rubber grip back on until being convinced that the Ahrends wood grips were the way to go. Interestingly, the Ahrends round butt K frame grips look like wooden copies of Uncle Mikes Goodyears.

You have to try em to know if you will like em, no matter who makes the grip. It seems that folks with bigger hands tend to like the Hogues.

The first thing I do when i buy a new Smith is put a set of exotic wood Hogues on. I've been doing this since the early eighties when you could call Guy Hogue send him an outline of your hand and he would build a set out of your choice of wood. I also have many sets of new production grips, and they are just as good. They fit well, they feel great, they are stunning to look at, they make the gun point like a finger, and all mine have stood the test of time. I probably have 35+ sets and I wouldn't have anything else!

I really like the Hogue one-piece cocobolo combats on my 629. The backstrap does protude a bit, but they did on the stock S&W rubber Hogues that came on it. My frame seems to be a little off, and I can live with it cause it shoots like a dream.

(Sorry I have used this pic a lot lately!)

I have many over the years and some fit perfect and some were a real pain in the arse to get on the gun. I much prefer two piece grips.

I have 'em on my Model 27 and I think they're the bees knees for shooting with. I only put the factory grips on for show now.

I am also thinking about getting some of these for my 29. I really like very wide grips (as in wide from left to right side of gun) because they seem to fill my hand well. Does anyone have or would be willing to take and post some pics of their gun with Hogues from the back of the gun? I have never seen any in person and am trying to judge how wide they are before I buy them. Thanks!

I don't have any pics handy, but the Hogue Monogrips are very thin compared to most other grips.

I have owned probably 5 sets of Hogue exotic wood revolver grips over the years and have been very happy with the fit and finish of all of them. Never had any problems with them being loose. I had one pair that would not fit the revolver that they were supposed to be sized for, but I used them on another revolver. I'm sure Hogue would have helped me out if I had asked. I will agree with photoman44 comment about them being "thin". If I had any complaint at all, that would be it. Otherwise, they are a great grip, IMHO.

What price range for the Hogue exotic grips?
I'd like to get one for my 329PD.

Hi,

I use a set of Hogue monogrips without finger grooves and with striped cap on my 27-3. Quality is top nothc. I like it for target shooting as it allows a very comfortable grip. For carry and if you have smaller hands these stocks are too large.

For smaller hands or when you like less bulky stocks I highly recommend Ahrends grips. I have them on my 17-4 (tactical smooth) and my 624 (retro target).

The miculek Bang! grips are hogues. They're my favorite because I can get my hands around them, and finger grooves never seem to fit my hands right. They are a love them or hate them grip though - mostly because a lot of people like a checkered grip and a positioning bump for consistent holds on draw.

Anywho, every wood grip I've ever had, including the one piece hogues never quite fit the top of the strap just right. I've learned to ignore it but I've been tempted to work them with a file.

Here's a pic of my old 547 with one of the exotic hogue one-piece'ers. Note the gap. This same grip fit a 66-1 with hardly any gap. I think that the one piecers are made with extra room for a variety of guns.

That grip on my Python is made from Coco-Bolo. I had an old walnut(?) that split at the glue line. I sent it back to Hogue. They called and said if I was in no hurry , they had some really nice Coco-Bolo they were gonna run and it would be worth the wait. They were right.
