Has anyone modified the rubber Hogue X-frame grip (RB) to fit a N-frame square butt revolver?

I recently developed an issue with my wrist (hopefully temporary) and could use some recoil dampening for a bit. My hands are plenty large for other N-frame grips that cover the backstrap, though I usually prefer a more svelte setup like service grips+Tyler T-adapter.

People have been using those grips on round butt N-frames almost since the day they came out

The material that covers the back-strap is elastic enough hat they can just be stretched right on a round butt N-frame

So no modification is necessary with a round butt

I have never measured the external dimension of the X-frame grip to see if there is enough of a footprint to be usable on a square butt N-frame, but I would be doubtful

Even if there is enough space for those grips to cover a square butt N-frame, going in from the top and removing the material from the inside of the grip toward both the back-strap and the front strap would be a big chore.

The chance of breaking through and destroying the cushioning material intended to cover the back-strap would be pretty high

I agree, probably will not work. My advice would be Hogue tamers for the Square butt N frame...

The point of the OP wanting to convert RB to SB is because Hogue does not make a tamer for SB guns.

OP, you may want to try Pachmayr Decelerator grips.

I tried to put a set of them on a 29-2 I recently bought. No go. However, I just got back from the range where I only shot one round through my .44 Mag and my thumb went numb. I pulled out those grips and put them on the 629-5 round butt. Fit was very good, so I will try them out. This 629-5 came to me with wood Hogue Rosewood grips that look great and feel good, until I pull the trigger.

Never had much luck with Pachmayrs. They are either too loose and let the gun slip around or the grip screw is tightened down and poke through the other side.

I think Hogue produces a rubber grip for the N-frame square butt, though it leaves the back strap exposed.

I will also buy some shooting gloves and give them a whirl.
