I don't think it happens too much here, but elsewhere on the web, I see a lot of confusion over why we celebrate this upcoming holiday. Remember, we have 3 holidays devoted to our men and women who serve.
1. Armed Forces Day. For those currently wearing the uniform.
2. Veteran's Day. For those who used to wear the uniform.
3. Memorial Day. For those who never got to take off the uniform.
So, this weekend, remember those who paid the ultimate sacrifice for our freedom. And do not mourn that these men died. Celebrate the fact that such men lived at all.

Randy died on the last mission I flew in Vietnam. He was a door gunner on a UH-1 that was shot down while we were looking for the 1st Cavalry Division Commander who's helicopter crashed in the mountains of the Central Highlands. The other three crew members of Randy's ship survived. The 1st Cav Commander's crew were not so lucky. They were found the next day, That General was the highest ranking person to die in Vietnam. Randy was an E-4 volunteer door gunner. Randy Gravesz.webp
I think about them and all the other people I knew who died serving our country, not just on Memorial Day, but many times during the year. I can never forget. God rest their souls.

Not a holiday I need to be reminded why sadly. I have a routine every year when a few of us go to our national cemetery early in the morning before all the ceremonies to visit our friends.
