I took one of our neighbors, who is a Viet Nam veteran, out for some plinking at a local gravel pit early on the 4th of July before it got hot. He had a blast shooting my M1911's and one of my carbines. I didn't shoot much, I had too much fun watching him enjoy himself.

Got home and snapped a picture after I got 'em cleaned up.

Had same choice over the holiday, but used a repro for the 1911 and parts master for the M1 carbine. Lots of fun!

Gravel/sand pits have always been my favorite shooting locations. But most of the ones I have shot at over the last 50-60 years have been closed to the public due to some "shooters" shooting up the equipment and/or leaving trash behind. I've met some of the finest people I know through shooting sports (formal and informal) but there is always that small percentage of irresponsible shooters who mess it up for everybody else.
[Rant over - sorry to hijack you thread, OP.]

I will take a lib shooting every chance I get. It amazes me how many of them get into it after a few rounds. It may not convert all of them but it does convert some of them. My favorite is a liberal lawyer. I have found him about a dozen good deals on guns. He bought them all and I always call him when I find good deals on ammo. He is much more 2A conscious now.

I knew this was Arkansas as soon as I saw the title for some reason! Spend many a day at the gravel pits... South Ark
Always something to shoot at there, crawling, slithering .... other things! Years ago

The “crawling, slithering” shooting practice was at the county dump! Unfortunately, government regulations make the counties cover the pile every evening. But in the old days a Nylon 66 with a flashlight duct taped around the forearm/barrel, and a hay twine sling was potent rat medicine. Would get a brick of .22 high velocity about every two weeks.

My friends and I almost lost our girlfriends we would spend so many saturday nights out shooting rats at the dump.
