I have a nice 629-4 classic with an 8 3/8” bbl. on the way.
I’m not planning on carrying it much but I want to be able to when needed. I want leather. I’m considering the ElPaso #2 Thumbbreak in cross draw. Or maybe a chest holster?
Just wondering what others are using for they’re 8 3/8” bigbores.

Pictured is a Bianchi cross draw holster I purchased many many years ago. As it turned out, I didn't use it as I decided not to carry any of my 8 3/8" revolvers in the field. It will give you an idea of the size. Not sure if this model is still being made.

I got a triple K dark red walnut oil and love it.

I’ve been researching this a little more and I’m leaning more towards a Diamond D chest holster. But I can justify the price tag on them.

I don't hunt any more, but when I did I carried my long barrel magnum
revolver in a Bianchi 111 Cyclone. It could be carried strong side or
cross draw. I carried cross draw so not to interfere with rifle slung over
right shoulder.

I, too, liked the looks of the Diamond D chest holster, but couldn't justify
the price for a 1 time hunt. I bought a Crossfire Alaskan (nylon rig) for
a lot less. It worked fine.

I just checked out the Crossfire and it’s showing 6” barrel max.
I’ve also checked out the Bianchi and it’s about the same price as an ElPaso. And it doesn’t come in black, as far as I can see.

I just ordered an Uncle Mikes sidekick shoulder holster.
I know it’s a cheap but it’ll serve the purpose.

My review of the Uncle Mikes sidekick.
It’s not a bad holster for the $39 price tag, but I’ve already returned it.
It fit okay with just a tee shirt on. But It ran out of adjustment to be worn over a lite jacket and definitely a heavier hunting coat.
Probably gonna go with my original choice, the El Paso thumb break.
