I'm looking for a holster for my 642. My wish list: IWB, tuckable, single clip, adjustable cant and ride height. IWB + tuckable are must haves, the reason I would like the remaining three is I'm still working on where I want this thing - 4:30 or appendix - and the adjustability might let me get away with either. I'd like to stick with 4:30 but I've been having some trouble in that location aggravating an old injury.

I've looked at quite a few but I'm sure there are more out there that I'm not thinking of - any help?

I just bought a StealthGear IWB and it's the best I've tried. However, it's the design, not the brand that's key. It's the so-called "cross breed" style (Crossbreed, Alien Gear, Galco Supertuck, etc.) with the big wide backer panel, as opposed to just a naked holster, that makes it comfortable. Shop those brands and you'll find something you like.

I went with the (double) expense of the SG because of the kudos it receives from people in hot humid climes. What I don't like is the metal belt clips. The tip curls outward for easy grasp but I don't like that. I just don't see the benefit of removing a holster, especially an IWB, during the course of the day. If I have to go in the post office I'd sooner just remove and replace the gun, not the holster. Nor do I have to put the holster after I put on my pants. I'd rather have something resembling a plain belt loop than the clips so I'm going to modify (minimalize) them.

Thanks Mike, I'll check it out. I'm not sure of the design of your clips, but maybe you can swap them out with Alien Gear clips? They are pretty decent and reasonable in price. I know they work on CB holsters.

Sounds like you described the Desantis soft tuk holster that I use for my 442. very adjustable, height and cant adjustable, tuckable, single clip and works for me.

My wish list was exactly the same as yours for my 442. Tons of research and shopping led me to Eric Whisnant (ETW Holsters). They were really good to deal with. I ordered the Mr. Jones for $90. Not sure about adjustments available because it set perfectly for me. The holster is almost too nice to wear iwb- you will want to show it off. The quality is amazing. Fits the gun perfectly. If you can't tell, I really like mine. Hope this helps. Let us know what you choose.

Louchia - that's one I've been looking at, thanks!

Dewey - I don't see that one on his site but he has some nice holsters and several J-frame models.

I've carried using a variety of tuckable IWB holsters for almost 10 years, of both the single and double clip variety. My experience with leather/kydex double clip models from both CompTac for Glocks (MTAC model - not made for revolvers) and Kholster for the J frames (a local equivalent of Crossbreed, sadly now out of business) has been uniformly satisfactory. They offer all the adjustability you could want, and remain solidly in place once you hook 'em up to your belt.

My experience with a single clip model for J frames is less happy. Over the course of a day, it was not unusual for the holster to end up rotated forward from where it started out. Maybe it was where I wore it on the belt, maybe the belt wasn't tight enough, maybe I bent over or sat down in a chair too often, maybe I got in and out of cars too often (or not often enough) - whatever, the angle of the gun/grip would change over the course of the day. I've always thought this was a result of that single clip having to do too much locating and locking all by itself.

If it were me, I'd focus on the wide array of double clip IWB models out there. They'll give you all the adjustability you want, and you can be fully confident that they will keep your gun in the position you get it adjusted for. That's not something you can say with confidence about a single clip holster, based admittedly on my own limited experience.

VPapeete- Yeah the ETW is a little difficult to navigate. Once you are on the site, go to "order now" then click on s&w and so forth until you get to your specific gun. The Mr. Jones is on the 2nd page. As far as the previous post on single clip- I can see how that might be a problem but the clip in my holstet is very strong and wide. It stays put very well but then again I've got some fat to keep it in place. Good luck.

I have multiple holsters, including very expensive custom ones, for my J frames. Your wish list seems to mirror mine.

Try this; Cutt I bought a 'deep concealment' holster for my 642 and its' by far the most comfortable and concealable holster I've found to date. It's the only one I use now for my J's year round including summer T shirt weather.

Thanks guys, managed to find both of those holsters. Appreciate the ideas.
