Basically I'm looking for a holster for the 457 and wanted to know if holster for a 4000/5900 series would fit.

The sizes are more or less the same I just wanted to ask before I spent the money.

Anyone have any info?

Thanks!

I have both, and I don't think so. The 457 is a thicker gun. You might be able to get the 5906 in a holster intended for a 457 (Depends on material and style, open muzzle end or not), but the other way around would be a stretch. IMO, of course.

I have some 100 models from Bianchi:

Model 100  Professional™ Inside Waistband Holster Bianchi Leather Holsters

If you look at the list for S&W, they are different. I have both the 12 and the 11.

I feel for you, as I went through this myself. If you like this style, this Don Hume works for me:

H715-M W.C. [H715-M] - $30.20 : Don Hume Leathergoods, manufactures high quality leather and nylon goods.

Then there are the custom Holsters......

The 5900 holster will usually be a little tight. I used a Sig 220 holster for mine, and it worked great. The 4516 holster I have did not fit the 457 all that well. The machining on the slide on the 4516 makes is slightly more trim than the 457.

Thanks for all the info. I was given a leather holster for the gun but I was more so looking at the Blackhawk Serpa holster. I've always been a fan of these style of plain clothes holster due to ease of re-holstering.

Do you think the Sig 220 Serpa holster will fit?

^ those are all good choices. Remember that a holster for the 4566 will fit, but leave a small amount of holster left at the bottom. Also: A "belt slide" for a 4506 or 645 will fit.

There will be variations between holsters as to what will fit and not fit. I can tell you that my 4506 will fit in a Fist kydex holster made for a 3913 but my 457 will not fit in that holster.

My 4506 will fit in my High Noon holster made for my 457 but the fit will be too loose even after tightening the adjustment screw.

Yeah. This is why I sold the 457. It is reliable, but it's milled a little fatter than most 3rd gen .45s. I wanted it to feel like the 4513, but it sure didn't. Good luck in your search.

Really, thank you for all the suggestions!

My main concern is that if I draw out then have to run I would like a holster that will allow for a quick reholster. I've had past experiences with my 4506 and leather holsters (Aker) where it's damn near impossible to reholster unless I stop and use my freehand to open the holster. I had a Serpa holster for my Glock and it was perfect. I was hoping to find something similar or at least something re-enforced.

Mine rides in Kramer #3 horsehide and there in no need for the second hand to help re-holster. The horsehide stays formed with out the gun in it and a belt around it.

I carry my 457 in a Don Hume J.I.T slide or their 715M IWB, both hold the gun secure and are easy to reholster.

I was able to find an Aker holster that was specifically made for the S&W 4500 series. Fits perfectly. Also picked up a Fist.
