Lately for some reason been thinking about holsters.
Got out a box of mine, tried to match up guns with holsters.
So I pull out this Smith and Wesson Branded Holster, marked B02 43 LH.
Model 43? Don’t have one. Could use a 3 inch Model 60 holster, and a 4 inch model 63.
No Go! Two inch 63 fits, sort of.
Little research, really?
Colt?
The vintage Smith & Wesson B02-43 Left Hand Black leather "OFF DUTY" holster is designed for left-handed shooters and is specifically tailored to fit Colt Cobra and Colt Detective Special 3" barreled revolvers. The black holster is made of high-quality leather and is meant to be worn on the hip for easy access while engaging in shooting activities. This holster reflects a classic design and offers a secure and comfortable way to carry and protect your revolver during hunting or sporting events.

S&W Holsters

Yes, S&W Leather Products made holsters to fit Colt guns as well as Charter Arms, Dan Wesson, H&R, High Standard, and Ruger. The "4" in "43" designates the Colt Agent, Detective Special or Cobra, the "3" is the barrel length.

I most likely picked up this Lefthand Holster of a stack of used ones,
Read the back- S&W, 43, etc.
Casually said something like ‘Will you take $5?’

I used to be a holster "collector" - lol. Over the last 5 -6 years I have been slowly selling off the holsters, belts, pouches and speed loaders I haven't used in a long time. I probably kept some for nostalgia but will probably sell most of those sometime soon as well.

I realized a long time ago that even though the old, vintage holsters look cool, bring us back to better times and are nostalgic, actually using some of them for EDC may not be in our best interest! I still own a few with the cut out to expose the trigger - not great IMO. For EDC I like a simple, stiff, well designed holster that securely holds the gun but still allows an easy draw.

Again, while I do like nostalgia, for true EDC / CCW I would no longer use any holster that requires snaps, straps, screws, velcro, hidden buttons, etc. New holster designs are something that has vastly improved over the years ,IMHO. Yes, on a RARE occasion (like my Dad's birthday) I'll carry his 1952 Chief's Special I/J frame loaded with 158 grain RNL bullets in an old vintage holster for the purpose of shooting a few rounds at the range in his honor. That said, I will also have my P365 loaded in my DeSantis Nemesis pocket holster for SD purposes. Old holsters are really neat - but antiquated.
