Lets see, as of 2009 the DHS has 230K employees, most carry guns.

At five years (length of contract) that figures out to about 32.6 rounds a month per employee.

I would bet almost everyone on this form shoots more then that.

Dept. Homeland Security has bought...

650 million rounds of .40 hollow point ammo? And bullet resistant booths? Have you guys heard about this? Just wondering as I have seen portable sheds (like the military houseing sheds) being filled with sand, open on both ends, with extra sand outside. They are placed on the major highways going into Atlanta, ie 75/85/20 etc. any other cities? Just wondering.

I heard it was 450 million rounds. I guess the next time I hear this, it'll be a billion rounds.

Folks that are familiar with the article seem to think the money has been set aside to purchase 450 million rounds over whatever period of time. Interested to see and hear more about the sheds you are talking about.

Why in the world would a department that has 230000 employees as of 2009 need ammo in this quanity? That comes out to about 2000 rds per person and I would be willing to bet money that only half or less carry firearms .Maybe Im reading too much into it,but it does seem a bit worrysome.Any thoughts on what big sis is up to would be appreciated.

I don't think it has anything to do with bullet proof booths. Those are probably staging stations after the freeze fiasco last year. So many people were complaining the city/county/state wasn't prepared and didn't spend millions of dollars to be prepared for a once in 10 year event, DOT over reacted this year when we had no winter.

UP TO! There is a difference.

Arms providers have Military-Government side and a Civilian side to their businesses. Government checks don't bounce.

My source...

DHS Preparing for What?

Read the posted article and maybe between pistol and rifle is the ??? Whatever the amount, that is a lot of ammo! Wonder how many people are getting to shoot that much ammo! I would love to have some.:D

for comparison, just how much does the .mil order in similar caliber/time frame?

The Coast Guard is a part of Homeland Security now. They'll be needing ammo too.
