LGS owner showed me this the other day and asked if I would be interested. I said sure, all I've got is 40 bucks and I like the lefty holster. So now it's mine and I gave it a lick and a promise last weekend trying to make it look a little better.

Hopkins & Allen model XL 5 Double Action 38 Cal Centre Fire. Folding hammer spur, early example of "snag free" pocket carry I guess. The holster is unmarked except for the numeral 5 on the front and the star.

After cleaning, I think it looks much better.

I don't think i have ever seen a revolver with a folding hammer spur before. For $40 I would have bought it just to own it even if i never planned to fire it.

In the mid 80's I was hangin' in a gun store when a customer tries to buy ammo for H&A 2" pocket revolver. No luck buying 32 short RF! So he gave it to me for my boys to play with.

At the next OGCA show I found loose rounds in 2's and 3's for about 25 cents each. I picked up about 75 rounds. The youngest boy is 38 now, but I still have too much fun to let him have it yet!

Cool revolver. Merwin and Hulbert also had a folding hammer spur.

M&H owned half of H&A and both revolvers were manufactured in the H&A factory. Which one of the two came up with the folding hammer I have no idea but both companies were definitely intertwined with each other.(that's what I have read fwiw.)
