One of the carriage rides in Charleston was nearly tipped over when a horse spooked. It seems that a parade was crossing the path of the carriage ride while playing bagpipes. Those horses spook sometimes but it's pretty hard. I don't see how a little parade would cause it such consternation.:D

Yeah, having that....

Bag pipes are a weapon of war that have been used to instill fear for thousands of years, smart horse!

...marching at me would scare me, too.....

I believe that besides the 'fear factor' the loud racket of the war pipes was disorienting to the enemy. If you've ever tried to do some in a place that was suddenly enveloped in noise you know what I mean.

At least they were.

Years ago we went to Charleston, and the carriage was pulled by Georgia Mules.

At least they were 'Suthun boys'. They coulda been Yah-yun-kee horses like Morgans or sumpin'.

A lady that knew horses ran from the crowd and grabbed the bridle and was able to calm the horse down with some peppermints.:)

The passengers bailed out quick but they had to check out the driver who I guess was riding the wild Georgia mules trying to keep them under control. So nobody was badly hurt.

A bagpipe is like a fiddle, or fiddler, that is out of tune. Awful.

Have a blessed day,

My fiance's mother's horse gets spooked easily. He was a rescue, and we're pretty sure he had a rough, abusive life prior to his adoption. Only under rare circumstances will he walk over to me and let me pet him. Every time I am over my fiance's parents' house, I'll help feed the horses and that seems to have helped him like me better.

That's cool, but...

I was a patient in a military hospital in Korea. A Piper in full regalia came into my room and played for me. It was totally awesome.

That's cool but at close range those things are LOUD!

Actually I like Bagpipe music. It make me want to march around the room and want to kill something.

Pvt. Clough: There it is, he's at it again! Have you ever heard such a racket in all your life?

Private Flanagan: Yeah, it takes an Irishman to play the pipes.
