Just as we have seen 357 sig , I would like to see a 45 case necked down to a 38 cal. Bullet. Also a 45 colt to 38 cal. These would really scream down range. What's your thoughts?

The 9x25Dillon does get a good move on but it usually requires a 6" or longer barrel to take full advantage of this cartridge.

I am currently shooting mine from a 5" S&W 1006 and a 3.78" Glock 29
Chronograph Feb 27 2011
Temp…76*
Elevation 22’ above sea level

Cartridge 9X25 Dillon formed from Winchester 10mm cases
ZERO 121 grain 0.356” JHP (these are the 38Super bullets with good copper jacket)

Gun S&W 1006 with Bar-Sto Match Grade 5.00” barrel

1565 low
1592
1637 high
1615

Gun Glock 29 with LWD 9x25 3.78” barrel

1539
1524 low
1542 high

As you can see from this data the ballistic performance drops off in the shorter barrel, but they are fun to shoot!

yes hotter

Hey thanks for the information. The 9x25 sounds like its a screamer. I've heard of the 9x23 but this is a first for the 9x25. The 400 corbon is a good round. The 40 cal bullet in the 45 auto case works well. Thanks guys.

In the late 20s they introduced the .38 Super for police to have a gun that could fight gangsters in cars and bullet proof vests. 130 grain fmj bullet at 1250fps or so. The problem is that you need along barrel to get screamer velocity. There already are cartridges on the 45/38 design that didnt work out. It was for bullseye competition. The few styles out now dont sell much. You wont find 40 corbon in Trinity Center or Weed Calif but you will find 357 44mag and 9mm ammo most any where. That is a problem with odd rounds. Most are reloads. I think you can get 1500 fps out of a 5 inch 38 super with 90 grain bullets if you looking for speed. That is kinda fun to load light fast bullets. The performance area is about figured out now. There is just so much speed you can get out of pistol bullets and self defence loads are all figured out now. 10 to 13 inches of penetraton and half again diameter expansion is the current theme. You want a new gun? How about a 627 pro 8 shot 357 5inch barrel. That is hard to beat. Or set up a 38 super long slide with a ramped barrel and load it hot as is safe. You may reach 1700 fps with 88 grain HP. Talk about explosive. Your idea is cool there are some wildcats out there I just looked up Handloads.com and saw a 375 Atomic. Its a cut down 375 winchester 220gr at 1500fps On a Blackhawk. That the way your thinking?

That sounds damn impressive. I was looking at auto rounds but have to say a ruger blackhawk 375 round with an 8 inch barrel would take a lot of deer. Good ideas guys.

One of the reasons I like the 10mm guns & cartridge was for it's ballistic potential...It can be run for mild to wild!

Besides easy conversions to 40S&W/357Sig/9x25Dillon are avalible in the Glock 20 or 29 line up. There was even a 224BOZ which was the 10mm necked down to the .224", this one was a little difficult because of the smaller bullets impulse to the slide was less and most guns the slide was skeletonized to lighten it up.

I actuall thought about doing a 10mm necked down to .308", someday maybe? Bullet selection would someting to contend with, some would need to be trimmed.

It's always nice to have ideas but $$$ and performance are always a consideration!

Re:38 caliber on a 45 case.

Way back there was a 38 or 357 (whichever you prefer) on a 45 auto case. I think it was called the Bo-Clerke or that it is the name of the inventor or inventors. I dont quite remember. It was supposed to hot rod a Government model pistol. Ancient history to some of us and a re-inventing of the wheel to others.

I like your conversions. I remember the 224 BOZ , They had a handgun chambered for it. 10mm to 308 , this is how they came up with the 44 auto mag.
