Support prayers please for my best friend Steve. He started out with polio and has no use of his legs, but that didn't stop him from playing all kinds of sports with us. Also, he was a live wire and there was NEVER a dull moment with him around. He had some really bad set backs in the girlfriend department, also injured himself and consequently lost some of his cognitive abilities. Since then his body, especially his shoulders (active life on crutches) have given way beyond where surgery can help. He doesn't HAVE to have the electric wheelchair he just got, but it may save him from further injury to avoid relying on it completely. He is in constant severe pain. He's made his own way and has nothing but bad breaks.
He has COPD and one day last year he became very weak. He thought it was his COPD bothering him and almost laid there til he died. If not for a neighbor finding him..., well, thank goodness they did. He was in the hospital and almost bled to death (2 pints of blood), most likely from his intestines. His only income is a small disability check and consequently they treated him just fine and let him go home but no follow up at least that he told me about. That alarmed me. I reminded him all year that he REALLY needed to get a colonoscopy (we're both 60). With all of his medical problems he didn't need any more trouble so put the colonoscopy on the back burner. A friend finally lined one up and took him to it. Turns out he's got cancer and they said they were going to section his colon and take out the tumor. He was ready to get that done until a couple of days ago when the doctor called him and said the cancer had broken out of his colon and called off the surgery and is going to put him on chemo. I told him that it was a lot better than it used to be, don't worry, just get it done.
Sorry for being long winded. I could fill a book with what he's been through but this is the main problem as it is life threatening. Let's hope and pray that the chemo is effective and that he can get back to a normal (for him) life. He actually has a chance at happiness because a woman just entered his life that REALLY cares about him and I hope like anything that they will have some years together.
