Product: Fancy Walnut Grip With Checkering For N Frame Round-Square Conversion

I was checking these out. I'm currently looking for a new set of grips for my S&W 627. I prefer something on the bigger side with no finger grooves. Anyone have any experience/input on em (link above)?

I currently have these Hogues and while I really like them.. I find even having that single finger groove affects my natural grip more than I'd like.

A little work with a fine wood rasp, a chainsaw file, sandpaper and steel wool will take that finger ridge right off and give you a smoother grip. Then a drop or three of boiled linseed oil well-rubbed will protect the wood.

Very true.. but I'd prefer to just sell these grips instead of mucking up a perfectly good set. A lot of people out there like finger grooves.

I have period correct correct diamond target grips for my 28. (1960) They fit MY hand great! I personally have no use for magnas. They don't work for me. All of my Smiths have target style grips. You can find some if you want them. Might take a while though. Good luck! Bob

I checked out the "new" target stocks S&W is putting out.. wasn't really impressed kinda of a "plastic" laminated wood look & feel to them. also thinned out towards the top of the stock.. I'd rather look for a set of origional older"real wood" target stocks or a set of the Eagle Heritage grips.
I have a set of the Heritage round to squarebutt stocks on my 629-4 and am quite pleased with the look & feel of them.

the lower ones....

Those look really sharp. So you're saying the ones that I linked feel plasticky and are too narrow on top?

I can't stand the feel of most Smith and Wesson grips (as can many others, hence the huge # of aftermarket grips available for them) but I DO love the current Smith grips that came on my 2011 N-frame 629. They fit like a glove and absorb recoil. Clean Break

For rubber grips, they do look nice. I didn't like the ones that came with my 627 because it still felt too thin. Those look thicker. I've also tried Pachmayr rubber ones and didn't like them.

I have the factory ones you show in the pic. Replaced the Hogues cuz they were too thin and I wanted factory grips just because. I like them but agree with the plastic comment, but they aren't too bad.

I'm thinking of just getting Ahrends target grips without finger grooves. What are your opinions on that, especially compared to the S&W factory one I linked in my OP?

I am really not the guy to expound on S & W grips... grips are such a personal thing, and I cut my teeth on single action Rugers and their smooth wood grips which are designed to roll with the recoil. With Smiths, their backstrap hits the web of the hand more. Some like the finger grooves to control the jump and maybe they'd work great IF they really fit well. Some prefer smooth wood, some rubber and some the wood with checkering... I prefer the looks of wood, but the rubber is easy to grip and absorbs recoil nicely, but yeah, it is not as classy as wood, stag or ivory.

I really like the looks of AverageEd's grips on the topmost of his three 629s in his post #9 in this thread. http://smith-wessonforum.com/s-w-revolvers-1980-present/245638-629-3-worth-550-a.html
Clean Break

Thanks for the advice.

What about Eagle grips? I hear they're on the thicker side. Sounds more in line what I might be looking for.

Just a little more background on my preferences.. I actually like Glock grips. I know many people them for being big and blocky, but on my Glocks, I actually have Pachmayr rubber grips on them which actually increase the girth as well as get rid of the finger grooves. Also in the minority that CZ guns run a little small in my hands. I don't think I necessarily have big hands, but the palms of my hands run a little big.
