How can I look up a Serial number ?

Can someone tell me how to find the date for Smith and Wesson hand ejector Serial number C 340586 ? Is there somewhere I can look the gun up at?

your gun was made between 1954 and 1956 according to the standard catalog of s&w, i know of no on line list of numbers, ronnie
