To date I only have a S&W revolver, my previous EDC M&P Shield 9mm and my current EDC M&P Bodyguard 380. I have no experience with a 1911, but have become smitten with the S&W 1911 e series tactical version in two tone. I've read that 1911s in general are more trouble to reassemble than my M&P shields and bodyguard. Given my limited experience, can anyone give me an idea how much trouble I may have reassembling a S&W 1911 e series?

You really shouldn't have any problems field stripping, cleaning and lubing a 1911, a little more to it than a revolver but after you do it a couple of times it will almost be second nature to you. Owners manual will have detailed instructions. Be very careful when taking the recoil spring plug off, it is under a lot of pressure. If it were too difficult there wouldn't be so many of us 1911 fans. You can do it.

1911s are pretty simple to do.The first time you put the slide stop in,put a piece of masking tape on the frame first, hold the stop between your left thumb and forefinger and use you right thumb to push it in place.Nothin sadder than putting a slidestop scratch on a brand new gun [emoji33]

1911's are simplicity itself to strip for cleaning.

Every GI learned how in the past.

Don't let that scare you.

Even better: good 1911's don't have plastic parts like your shield and bodyguard Smiths do.

I don't know whether this true of Smith's 1911's: Smith's 1911's do have some funky features I find undesirable.

That's one of the many beauties of the design. With enough patience, you could train a chimp to not only field-strip it but detail-strip it and reassemble it and, best of all, all the tools needed are designed in to the gun.

Dude, you really should lay off the "medicinal" weed before posting. It's a thread on 1911's. Try reading the Rules & Information forum first, then try again. :p

I suspect that English is not his first language. I learned a long time ago to cut foreign posters some slack because they invariably speak and write English better than I do their native language.

You tube is your friend lots of good info and great tips the more you do it the easier it gets don't let it scare you
