I am in need of swapping out the hammer nose/firing pin on a model 60. I ordered 2 extended HNs from S&W but they said that they didnt have any "rivits" and I would have to reuse the old one.
Any recomendations?
I have tons of tools and have done a lot of detail work on my firearms with good results in the past,,,
But I figure that you've done this before and may have some suggestions!
Thank all

I'm not sure how you would re-use the rivet. I had to drill it out on the ones I did. Was S&W just out of stock on the rivets, or discontinued? You may want to try another source like Brownells, Numrichs, or Midway. I would not try an reuse one myself. The first FP/HN I had replaced I had a gunsmith do, and he used a new rivet.

yes, if the punch you use is the "exact" size, you can push it out, enough to pull out the pin ( hammer nose), and when you push it back in, restake both sides at the same time...we've done it in the past in a "need to " situation, but yes, it is as easy to just put in a new one.
If it "couldn't be done, they wouldn't have told to re-use it..."
some people just get carried away and "booger" things up, mainly from using the improper tooling.

S&W said it was a discontinued part.
I think I should look for a new one, I dont have that good a set of punches, Maybe a trip to ?harbor freight? for some brass ones.
I will have to explore options.
Funny S&W does not have any, What do they do when they need one?

Peter Numbich lists one that I found by looking for a M60
Here's the link to thier part with pic
I noticed when I checked back that the listing for the bushing had changed, so I looked it up again & it then showed a 36-1 bushing now it's showing a 649-1 bushing??
Also unsure about the K Frame bushing but would assume the Ks hammer is wider than the J frame, without having both sise by side to examine with calipers I'm guesing but just looked up a M19s bushing & it shows a different part # listed..
