how do you remove the M&P 15 mag release and bullet button? i want to put a new mag release and bullet button in, but the mag release does not come out like a normal ar. i push the button in as far as it goes, but the release wont clear the reciever far enough to be turned counter clockwise more than 90 degrees. is this a defect? do i need to send my gun to smith and wesson for repair?

Uh, I don't have a Sport handy to check out, but I can't imagine they used a non-standard magazine release. Use a punch to push the button side in, you have to get it pretty far into the receiver to clear the other side. Make sure you don't scratch your lower receiver when you turn it to remove it.

You said bullet button...is this a Kalifornia compliant model?

yeah it is unfortuanatly. thats why im worried it might be manufactured so it is impossible to switch out the mag release. im pushing that thing for all its worth and had to use a pair of pliers to ease out of the little nub on the side of the mag well. however is still cant rotate the release because it wont clear the bolt catch lever on the side of the gun.

****. i bent the mag release trying to force it. i knew i shouldnt have done that but my impatience got the better of me

since the lower reciever just has a hole for the mag release assembly, my current plan is to drill through the bullet button thereby damaging the factory mag release beyond repair and replacing it with a better mag release and bullet button. this release was obviously made so it could not be removed and that angers me. im glad a new mag release is only 6 bucks

They do use a non standard mag release and we have had 2 break. One was broken out of the box and the other the customer only had it for a week. It can be drilled it out and replace it.

This is PRECISELY what has been done. So you know; altering this feature is a big no-no should you wind up in a position where the authorities are looking your rifle over. It's not gonna be hard for them to figure a date of manufacture via serial numbers, and then there will be some explaining to do.........

And, FWIW..... there are ways to keep this rifle compliant, yet just as easy to deal with as an American AR 15, rather than the socialist edition you and I have.;)
