How hard is it to change a grip on a 4506?

De nada, but you can thank bad_man_ one for originally posting the scanned directions. I just added a couple of images and some observations.

Well then I thank bad_man_one as well.

I wonder if you can still buy the rounded grip from Smith and if not I wonder where you can buy them?

S&W parts for the 4506:
Part # 203620000 $18.82 GRIP, STRAIGHT
Part # 203590000 $18.82 GRIP, CURVED

The listed prices are without tax & shipping, from the current list. Of course, that doesn't mean the price hasn't gone up and they haven't had time to update the website parts list, though.

No guarantee they still stock the curved one, either. It's not listed as an option for the 4566TSW and I haven't ever tried ordering one. They might still have some, since they will still make small runs of these older guns for agencies who are still using them. You'd have to call and ask.

Thanks again Fastbolt, for an old Winchester Marlin collector of 45 years I'm sure learning a lot about Smith & Wesson's.

It's fun to.

djh,

Brownells also sells the complete lineup of S&W parts. If you go to the 4506 schematics page and scroll down to view item 23 you'll see both straight and curved backstraps for sale. Cost is $18.00.

Personally, I prefer the straight backstrap on my 45xx series pistols, augmented with a Hogue slip-on grip for a little more width.
