How long of a wait for a new 686?

I ordered a new 686 Plus recently and the dealer was unable to give me any idea how long it would take to get it. I know everything is moving very slow these days but does anyone have any feedback on how long it might take to get this model or how long it took to get yours if you recently ordered?

Although the dealer couldn't give an estimate they did say it won't be anything like the wait for the Shield. They have about 40 people who have paid to be on a waiting list for the 9mm. He was joking about a guy who was happy to be #2 on that list but found out that narrowed the wait down to only about 4 months...

I know I'll be going crazy for awhile waiting for this, just hoping maybe this model moves a little quicker and wondering how long of a wait I should expect.

You might want to consider buying a used 686 six shooter. The early "L" frames are really nice guns, better quality than the new stuff from S&W, and readily available. Good luck.

My LGS got a 2.5" 686 for me last summer in less than a week. But he was unable to get a 627PC for me in November and couldn't get a 3" 686 for me in January.

In November, Gander got the 627 in four days and they had the 3" 686 in stock last week. I had to pay full MSRP and endure their forty five minute checkout procedure, but I'm happy that I've got the guns. Maybe one of the big stores could help you too.

I had considered buying used but this is my first gun. I felt I'd be at a disadvantage when assessing the quality and value of a used one. Plus I'm buying a 3" and I don't see too many of those out there anyway. I also like the idea of owning new and figured this would hold a bit of its value if I eventually decide to sell it for something different.

Thanks for the responses. It doesn't sound too promising, guess I'm stuck just waiting it out however long that may be...

I would cancel the order and get one off GB or call around to a shop that has one. I was able to find one at a shop using an internet search.
