Would love to hear how low you guys have your DA trigger pull on your competition or "play" revolvers. Let's list model of revolver, hammer or frame mounted firing pin, trigger pull weight and what you've done to get it there. I'll start with mine:

625-7 perf ctr
Frame mounted pin
6lbs 4oz

I've had this gun for almost 10yrs now running a Miculek spring kit with polished internals and shortened strain screw, so far with well seated Federal primers its been 100% reliable but I would like to get the pull under 6lbs. So after hunting season is over it'll be time to lose @ least 5oz off the trigger pull w/o losing any reliability, to begin I just started seating primers with a RCBS hand priming tool to insure primers are set as deep as they'll go and will be adding an extended firing pin, at this time I'm not sure who's FP yet...

I run a little over 7# and have absolutely no interest in going lower, after having tried various combinations. I have 14# rebound spring and strutted mainspring with 1/2" strain screw.
I won my class in a state championship against a guy who has his about 6#, but had 4 FTF against my no FTF, and he lost by 1 second.

I have a 625-8 and a 627-5 PC. Both are frame mounted pins. The 625 is 6 pounds 6 ounces and the 627 is 6 pounds 4 ounces. Both got there the same way. Stock main bent in the "Miculek" way using a home made jig. Stock rebounds cut. Internals polished.

I load Federals of course, but no special precautions are taken. I just make sure they are well seated on the SDB.

To get really low with reliability, you have to cut the hammer.

I've read that Randy Lee at Apex can get a DA trigger under 4lbs. I can't measure mine but I have a 67-6 (frame mounted firing pin) that is probably under 6lbs (I did not do the work, nor did Apex).

This is another great "can of worms" topic.
I believe Randy Lee, Apex Tactical, has an ICORE open gun (627) running at 2 3/4 lbs DA.
I run my CF's at 6 lbs.
My 617 runs just under 7 lbs.
I have run my 625 (reliabley) at 4 1/2 lbs and didn't really like it. It would take some re-learning and was just too different going from 4 1/2 lbs to my 7 lb 617.
FWIW my 625 ran just fine at 4 1/2 lbs with an OEM S&W firing pin that measured .492".

Mod. 29-5
hammer firing pin
11 lb DA
1.5 lb SA
Just measured it tonight cuz thought it was a little light. I am thinking that is too light for home defense? Opinions?

My 2 x SS K frames that are worked and highly modified and only run my handloads with well seated Federal primers, were tested today, using a Lyman digital trigger pull guage.

1. Model 66 4lb 7 was the average
2. Model 64-5 4lb 9 was the average

I am unable to cock them single action due to modifying them by pinning the frame preventing them able to be cocked single action. This means the trigger weights are tested double action only.

Both have over travel screws on the trigger.

Both run Wolff reduced power main springs, which are not fully screwed in, but have a grub screw drilled and tapped to ensure the strain screw cannot back out. They also run cut or trimmed 11lb rebound springs.

Both are polished internally, shimmed, and all pins parallel with frame, cylinder central, barrel aligned centrally, frames straightened. Ejector rods straightened.

Both have ball locks on the crane.

Both have aftermarket barrels. The Model 66 has a 4 inch Lissner. The model 64 has a 6 inch new Lissner, now called HPB custom.

Used the 6 inch recently at our National Police and Services (military, customs, spooks etc) championships and dropped 8 points and 7 points respectively at 50 yards. I need the work, not the gun...

I know of others lighter and smoother, and perhaps I shall move down that path when I learn a few more tricks.

These revolvers have never fired a factory round through them since I had them modified, and will never be used in anger, but competition use only.

Cheers,

Aussie D

I have a 610 no dash hammer mounted right at 5# with all stock parts. Federal primers seated .007" below flush on a Dillon RL 1050. If I was manually seating them I don't think I could be as low and still reliable. I have not had a misfire in probably 20k rounds.
