I was just wondering how many 8 3/8" model 17s are out there?
This one is a 17-4 carbine.
it's from 1981.
Did Smith make them in all -#s ?
A bit heavy for a .22, Almost no recoil and just plain old fun/easy to shoot, and when shooting it, Folks wonder what the heck I am shooting!

I have one I bought new from Montgomery Wards in Torrance, CA in 1979 for $180! Haven't shot it in 20 years or so. Still in 99.9% condition. Can't remember if its a -3 or -4. I don't think they are particularly rare.

Toroflow1, I got ripped off.

I bought this 17-4 in early 1980 and had to give $259.

I always grab the model 18 or 34 instead!

I have an 8 3/8" 17-5. It's always an attention-getter when I bring it to the range. When I fire it at distances of less than 20 yards I feel as if I'm cheating.
