How much diff is a 22 vs 22 mg ammo?

What type of rifles shoot this larger ammo and how much better is it than the 22 lf?

The difference in the 22 long rifle and the 22 magnum is in the size of the bullet casing. The weight of the bullet is the same in both, but the extra powder in the 22 magnum will almost create the same power at 100 yards that a regular 22 long rifle has at the muzzle.

I dont hear much abouth the 22 mag. Are they hard to come by? Are they better for hunting? What kind of game? and they must still be good at plinking? seems more of an all around rifle?
 
As far has hunting goes, a .22 mag can take game more reliably. in some loads it has greater KE and mass. As far as plinking, it can get expensive. Just looking at a 2012 cabelas catalouge, for bulk ammo your looking at spending roughly .21 to .30 cents per round. Its all personal preferance. for me, as a high school jounior working for his ammo and everything else, a 22lr is my best friend.

i laugh at all my buddies asking me "why i'm buying another little .22lr" well because i like shooting more than i like buying or making my ammo. I'm almost positive that the soda can or piece of paper im shooting at doesn't care what caliber I'm shooting. sure I have multiple other/larger calibers, but not one of them gets shot more than my .22lr's

What, my 338 RUM is too good for your soda can shooting???:confused:

Oh yeah; it's darn near $3.50 a shot. And that is why I rarely shoot it.:rolleyes:
The 22 magnum is a nice round. A great rabbit bullet for 50-100 yards. It does hit harder than a 22lr.
BUT; as noted, it runs about the same as bulk .223 ammo or MORE. I love the .22lr- I think it was truly one of the most brilliant of all bullets created.

There are a couple of guys with .50 BMG in my area who are regulars at my range. Every once in a while the RO assigning ports will slip up and put them under cover, instead of one of the uncovered ports. That makes for some rather impressive (and very physical) concussions. :)
 
I've got bot calibers, love the 22 magnum on performance. I would love to see the M&P chambered for either the 22 WMR or even the .17 HMR. The pro's for the 22 WMR are the .40 grain travels around 1600 to 1770 fps, flat trajectory and pretty accurate at 100 yards. I have two Marlin 782 22 WMR bolt action and they will go with me to my grave. The .17 HMR is even faster but very light and wind has it's way with it, but it's a screamer...

The con's, expensive over the 22 LR, approaching the .380 and 9mm caliber price. So if you want to do a lot of shooting, the cost becomes an issue. Also can't load them so you are at the mercy of the manufacturer. Also limited on weapons for that caliber. But just my .02 cent.. Keepem in the X ring.
