There's an excellent consignment 4" S&W Model 15 but with Hogue rubbers here locally for $289. I asked the guy what the price is out the door. Comes to $350. That is just state controlled extortion. Since we were just talking I think he might have been a little high. But that's including tax and the DROS, which is you paying the state to prove you're not a criminal.
What would a used $289 modern revolver cost you out the door in your state?

BTW. A few years ago I bought a modern made Colt Frontier Six Shooter Centennial 44-40 out the door for the stated price of $1200. The clerk said there was no extras because it wasn't the store's gun and was consignment "person to person". But there was the ten day wait, of course. I didn't understand that but didn't complain either. Maybe the laws changed since then.

8.5% retail tax here, no DROS or anything like that. There may be a requirement for individuals to "self-report" and pay sales tax on used items bought from individuals, but I don't know anyone who has ever actually done it. (Note to the OTC: I always buy retail, so there is no need for me to self report.) :D

just 8.5% sales tax here in az no extras.it would be the same for used seems my state enjoys taxing you twice if you give them a chance.

Sales tax is close to 10%. $10 background check. If using a credit card some LGS charge 3%.

289+29+10+9 = 337

In Ohio the only add-on is the sales tax which is 6.5%-7.5% around here depending on the county.
If a LGS attempted to charge for a background check, I would walk the deal. You're being fleeced. It costs them nothing.

Wow, Maximum. 8 dollar call-in? State charges the store 5. So your dealer charges you a 3-dollar fee to do what the state requires? That's just - wow? Even a guy I used to deal with, that would charge sales tax on the full value of a gun he was just receiving for you (you buy a gun on line and he charges you 30 bucks to log it in and out, and tax on the 1000 dollar value of the gun) never did an upcharge on the call-in.

$309.23 if I did the math right in my head. 7% sales tax, and walk out the door with the gun if you have a Georgia Weapons License.
We also have a five year mandatory handgun safety certificate that costs $25. The questions asked are like, " It is safe to aim a gun at a LEO if:
A. You know it's not loaded
B. He's only a security guard
C. Never

Well, I exagerated a little, but you get the point. It's just another way to get some "revenue".

In my section of NJ:
1) Criminal bacground check each time you apply for a handgun permit will be $18.00

2) Handgun permit, $2.00 each ( one handgun per month ). Permits are good for 90 days and may be extended to 180 days for cause by local PD.

3) 7% NJ sales tax on the firearm purchase price if not a transfer from a out of state sale.

4) NICS check phone call at time of purchase, about $15.00

5) Transfer fees, on out of state purchases, from my LGS / dealer are about $35.00

Around here, 7.75-8.87 % tax, no other fees($3 to county clerk for paperwork on handguns). Buy as many as you can carry.

$250-275 tops. I'd pay cash face to face at a gunshow and sellers always come off a little. :D

For you guys complaining about the dealer charging for the "call in fee": Do you work for free? I don't, and your LGS dealer doesn't either. We are all paying for his time to call in the NICS check and any state/local check. For some of us, it's figured into the price of the gun, for others it is tacked on at the end with the sales tax. Either way, you are paying it, and you should. Everyone's time is worth something.

We don't have a call-in check here. The info is put into a database I guess and we are checked out during the ten day wait. The state charges you for that, not the gun shop.
I accidently bought two guns FROM A GUNSHOP within a thirty day period once and had to wait longer, creating an EXTRA fee for the second gun. But in Ca. you can buy as many handguns from a private party as you want per month, but a dealer handles the transaction and sends the info in like usual while you wait ten days. This person to person thing costs about $35 to do. It's pretty convoluted out here.

$306.34 (289 + 6% Sales Tax)

No Purchase Permit required
No NICS fee
No Waiting period
Open Carry okay in most areas.
WVCDL Lawsuits pending in cities whose laws are more restrictive than State Laws.
CHL not linked to Driver's License.

Not entirely free from anti-gun restrictions, but closer than many that have posted here.
