What is the CORRECT way of removing and installing a Hammer Nose?

Any tips and techniques?

What tools are needed to accomplish this in a clean/profecional way?

I cant find this info in the Kuhnhausen manual .

Already placed an order at Numrich for several hollow rivets.

As always gents, any help will be appreciated.

Best regards,

OK, made some research around the forum and figured it out... This place is AWESOME!

Now I got some more questions:

1. How to remove the existing rivet without marring the hammer surface? Taper/beveled or straight puncher?

2. What if I put the hammer in a steel surface and peen one side. Then turn it and peen the other side? Is there something that I may be aware of?

Im pretty confident on my mechanical skills, but Im a bit conserned with this issue as it was a major PITA to find a correct and new stainless L frame hammer/trigger combo for a 686-3 Im restoring. Long story made short: I got it filthy cheap, but it had the WORST "trigger job" Ive ever seen in a firearm- to the point I have to install new hammer, trigger and rebound slide, and the hammer block was missing! And not to mention the usual rebound slide spring cut in half and bended mainspring... :(

The hammer I got was from a 686-0 with the thicker hammer nose, being this the reason I need to swap hammer nose with the existing hammer. Actually I want to preserve the oversized hammer nose as well as I have a 686-0.

Any insight about this subject will be appreciated.

I would use a non tapered smaller punch & put the hammer on a board with a hole drilled in it to accept the pin..
I have a couple of Roll Pin Punches that come to mind..
Good Luck!!
