How would you go about selling animal mounts?

A friend is downsizing and has asked me to help him get rid of some items. Among those items are a dozen or so animal mounts they have collected over the years. About half are the usual trophy class whitetail but some are more unusual items like caribou and African plains game. I expect he'll keep the lion. His wife and he are serious bow hunters.

Any idea? Anyone need instant trophies for a bar or game room?

When the time comes I have a couple hundred to get rid of. I suggest contacting some of the larger retail stores Cabella's, Smokey Mountain Knife. Safari Club in Tuscon may be able to point you in the right direction. There is a bow hunting museum I believe in Wisconsin. Full mounts are the most desirable for museum donations.

Up here in the inland NW (eastern WA and Northern ID) I have seen quite a few mounts listed on craigslist.

Check with USFW as there may be restrictions (CITES) on the sale of animal skins, horns, hooves, claws, teeth, tusk and/or mounts. Also check with your state wildlife folks and have the buyer check with his about the exportation and importation restrictions your respective states may have.

I was at a recent auction, which was on live internet bidding, primarily a gun auction, but had a few mounts, including a Buffalo, cougar, Wolf, and all went for very little. I think I recall the Buffalo went for$150. I don't know if this is typical or not.
