I ran across this forum while doing some research on my Model 19-3. I bought the gun while stationed at SAC HQ in Omaha, NE back in 1971. Alas, both SAC and the Model 19 are no more. It was my third gun, after a Colt Government Model .45 ACP and a Browning Medalist .22lr target pistol. The Colt I bought used at K-Mart and the Medalist was purchased new at a pawn shop. I paid $50 for the Colt .45 and $139 for the Browning, both of which I still have. The Model 19 was purchased at Skagg's Drug Center for $125. To think you could buy handguns at department stores in those days; egads!
I'm now in hog heaven where even horny toads are gun tote'n. You can carry concealed, without permit, and you have thousands of acres of government land to shoot on.
My first gun, although I didn't classify as one, was a Daisy single pump spring-fired air rife with 50 BB tube magazine. The gun reminds me of the movie "A Christmas Story" when it was most little boys dream to get a BB gun for Christmas. My Dad bought it for me but my Mother constantly would hide it; something about putting my eye out.
I must admit that I succumbed to the new polymer automatics. My last revolver was a Colt Python I bought new in 1980; the craftsmanship is outstanding. The Model 19 is not too shabby either.
Most of my guns sat idle since I lived in the East and shooting ranges where being squeezed out of existence. My arsenal is being dusted off as I now join the riders of the Purple Sage and the gun enthusiasts of this forum.
