I finally found a used Hoyt holster swivel made in 1984 with "S&W 19" stamped on it. Its for a 4 inch barrel revolver. Prior to buying it I did some research and found the S&W model 66 and model 19 are the same dimensions. Since I own a model 66 I made the purchase. With that said, my model 66 is too big for the Hoyt holster. So now I am confused as to what revolver will fit. Any help would be appreciated

Indeed M19 and M66 are identical other than carbon vs stainless. *most* holsters were made for K Frame generically , but occasionally one would be closely blocked for either underlug (M19) or heavy bbl M10 .

Can you be specific as to how it doesn't fit ? Some old school holsters were mfg slightly undersize on purpose , so that they would breakin to a perfect fit.

Do you suppose it is a model 19 Hoyt holster which is for "some" S&W revolver, but not a Model 19???

I’ll confuse matters a little more. I just went out to the USED HOLSTER LOCKER out in the garage and found the Hoyt Holster I carried on-duty. It is marked “SW” and “66.” For the life of me I do not recall if I was carrying my department issued Model 66 or my personally owned Model 19 when I ordered the holster, but I do know that I carried both in it over the years.

Good luck with that conundrum! From my experience, both guns fit in that Hoyt holster.

Hey I inherited a s&w .38 chief revolver. Wanted to
Date it. Serial #781308 thanks

Does your's have a Target hammer ? I have bought K frame holsters in the past that would not fit my 19 with the target hammer. Just a thought.

That may be the answer. I have a Roy Baker pancake holster marked model 19. A 19 with a target hammer won't allow the snap to fasten but one with the standard hammer will.

The holster is 30 years old... it has shrunk.... had one like this... wrapped the gun in a sock and forced in in the holster, left it in for a few days each day shoving it in as hard as i could. After a few days I had it stretched back into shape and the gun fit fine.

Thanks for all the responses! The Hoyt swivel holster is a breakfront and when I put the revolver in it the front gap remains open exposing the entire front of the gun. Even though it is stamped with S&W 19 4, it appears the holster may be for a smaller frame 4" barrel revolver. Any thoughts?

Some of Roy's holsters are stamped "TH" denoting target hammer or "SH" denoting standard hammer. With those lacking any such stamp, it is assumed the thumb break is sized for a standard hammer.
