#1 because yes, I do remember! Kindergarten and 1st grade 74 years ago. It was a Mom & Pop grocery then, with the high shelves and rolling ladder behind the counter. The building was still there until less than 5 years ago! It had been several things since it was the store, including being a church at least once in it's life. That's one of the things I really miss about those days.:(:(

But for funny I'll take #4 and #5, hard to beat Smudge.:D:D:D

We had those neighborhood stores all over New Brighton, Beaver Co., PA; one down the block. Cash in a couple pop bottles and get out the penny candy. Take a note from mom and 35 cents for a pack of Kents. And, of all the little stores around town, Andy's had the best chipped ham, Whittles had the best butcher shop meats. Steinfield's had the little file card drawer for peoples' tabs. 5 cent candy bars were four times the size of these "fun size" bars. Most stores would let us break the Popsickles in half if we didn't have a whole dime. The store a block away was great, as our house was on the corner and our bushes were a great honey hole for pop bottles.
Oh, sorry! The humor was good today!

#s 1 & 10 bring back memories. I inherited a 1943 refrigerator at one point. Sometime in the mid-late 1980s I had to scrap it as the base rusted out, but it was still working. It quit working once, but I managed to repair the mechanical thermostat and keep it running.

Chuck's #5, the refrigerator. That sure is the truth!

We had a Frigidaire that, I believe, came from my grandfathers house when he died in 1970. I have no idea how old it was but I remember it when we lived in his house before 1950! It was still working just fine when my mother's house was sold in about 1997.

Pete's #1 hits home. The 5/10 store in our town was directly across the street from the old fashioned hardware store. Both had smells that were unique to each one, they both had old worn smooth hardwood floors that popped, creaked and squeaked with every step. The 5/10 store had the candies, fudge and cookies just inside the door so the smells would suck you in.

I definitely relate to #1. I could go into the local drug store and spend a dime and get enough sugar to last a few days. Especially the wax bottles filled with whatever. Drink up and chew till the wax just petered out.
All winners today!!
