MetalMan #5 reminds me of my neighbor's Lab. They put in one of those "invisible fences." The Lab quickly learned the pain was temporary, like the cartoon. He'd get line up, wiggle a bit and make a headlong run across the boundary. You'd hear a "vip" ,he'd shake his head and do the happy dance. Then the Lab was off to wherever labs go during the day.

My sis had beagles and an invisible fence. One of them learned to creep close enough to the line so the warning tone sounded (but not close enough for the zap) and wait there until the battery in the collar ran out of juice. Then it was off to the races, and the squirrels.
